Pokémon may have grown massively since its days sitting behind the small screen of a Game Boy Colour. With 2019's Detective Pikachu and the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the world of Pokémon is expanding out to a whole new generation of young players. Whether or not the same can be said for the upcoming live-action Pokémon Netflix show is yet to be determined.

However, the legacy of the original games, such as Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, has clearly never left the heart of one Pokémon-loving tattoo artist whose unique designs have now gone viral. Take it from us, they are the perfect design for retro Pokémon players.

After the designs were shared on the Twitter page for the successful tattoo-based magazine, Inked, Pokémon fans were quick to show their delight at the fantastic designs of the tattoos. Especially, their homage to Pokémon's gaming beginnings.

Who Does The Incredible Pokémon Tattoos?

These incredible designs have been created by tattoo artist, Dan McWilliams, who is based in Los Angeles. His fantastic Pokémon designs often feature some of the most iconic characters of the game franchise layered on top of a Game Boy Colour console and bursting through the confines of the screen to add a brilliant 3D effect. Some of the classic Pokémon featured in McWilliams' designs include, Charmander, Charizard, and Mew.

Of course, there are players who still have a special place in their heart for the days of the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS and who will no doubt be looking for their upcoming remakes. However, these fantastic tattoos are a beautiful piece of nostalgia for 90's kids who miss the classic Game Boy Colour.

What Other Tattoo Designs Does McWilliams Do?

McWilliams doesn't just specialise in Pokémon. As seen on his Instagram page, the tattooist has created various designs featuring Darth Vader, Alien's Xenomorph, and The Mandalorian, but with a familiar Pokémon cheeky chappy on his shoulder.

For Pokémon fans who can't make their way to Los Angeles, there is still Pokémon Legends: Arceus to look forward to.
