Iceland Confirmed To Host League Of Legends World Championships 2021

After being forced to move the League of Legends World Championships 2021 away from China, Riot Games has officially revealed that Iceland will host the pinnacle esports event.

Riot was faced with the tough decision to move the championships away from China and the proposed tour of the city, due to struggles with travelling to the region, especially in terms of production crews with multiple arenas.

However, the previously stated that Europe will now play host to LoL Worlds 2021, following on from MSI and two Major Championships in VALORANT being organised in the region by Riot.

Now, they've confirmed that Iceland will be the home of League of Legends for 2021, hosting the World Championships at the Laugardalsholl Indoor Sporting Arena, starting on October 5.

Riot Games also confirmed the dates for the tournament, breaking down into Play-Ins, Group Stages, and each tier of the Playoffs:

  • Play-Ins - October 5-9
  • Group Stages - October 11-13 & 15-18
  • Quarterfinals - October 22-25
  • Semifinals - October - 30-31
  • Grand Final - November 6
