Huke Misses CDL Major After Spelling His Own Name Wrong
The Call of Duty League finally returned to LAN, after a year-long hiatus due to the global pandemic's restrictions.
It was Dallas Empire who stole the show, making light work of their biggest rivals, OpTic Chicago, sweeping the Green Wall 3-0 in e-classico. The reigning world champions appeared to be back to business, with new sharpshooter Reece "Vivid" Drost being the difference.
However, Empire's former marksman Cuyler "Huke" Garland didn't enjoy his weekend, taking his month from bad to worse.
Cuyler, or should we say Cuylwr, failed to make himself legible for the CDL Stage 4 Major, after his COVID-19 test came back as "not recognised" due to him spelling his own name incorrectly.
Huke Spells His Own Name Wrong
The news broke that Huke was ineligible, with the LA Thieves taking to Twitter to say "As part of the CDL's COVID guidelines, players are to be tested the night before the match to determine eligibility. Huke was not available to be tested at the dedicated time."
"We attempted to get him tested earlier today but were unable to get results back in time for the match. Due to the missed COVID test, Huke will sit out of today’s games."
CDL analyst and former pro, Anthony "Nameless" Wheeler, blasted Huke, branding his actions as "unacceptable".
This prompted a reaction from Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag, who claimed "Cuyler spelled his name wrong on his COVID test from last night so it was invalid. Then showed up to the venue without his ID and wasn’t able to be tested again."
LA Thieves lose to Los Angeles Guerrillas
With Huke sidelined, Zack "Drazah" Jordan was pulled back into the starting line-up, where their tactics had been clearly scrambled. Losing both Search and Destroy games, LA Thieves crashed out of the major to the hands of Los Angeles Guerrillas.
For LAG, their torrid history at the majors was turned on its head, as Bryan "Apathy" Zhelyazkov came out swinging in typical fashion.
The Major now looks finely poised, with LAG facing Seattle Surge in the lower bracket, with the winner facing OpTic Chicago. Meanwhile, Dallas Empire will face Toronto Ultra for a guaranteed top 3 placing.
