A guide to unlocking the new and improved Black Widow.

16:00, 11 Nov 2020

Natasha Romanoff — aka Black Widow — is one of Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 4’s featured skins.

This skin came as a massive surprise to many. There’s already a Black Widow skin in Fortnite! Everyone was expecting to see a character like Venom or Black Panther. Still, there is no denying that this Snow Suit variant is a beautiful skin.

The process of unlocking Black Widow (Snow Suit) is different from most of the other Marvel-themed skins. No amount of XP or challenges will earn you Black Widow (Snow Suit). Black Widow (Snow Suit) is tied to her own personal Fortnite tournament titled the Black Widow Cup. Players must battle it out and come out victorious if they wish to play as the iconic Avengers superhero.

In this guide, we will highlight exactly how to unlock the Black Widow (Snow Suit) skin and the rest of the set. Additionally, we’ll discuss the remaining Marvel Knockout Super Series cups and the mystery Marvel heroes/villains attached to them.

Unlocking Black Widow (Snow Suit)

Unlike many of the other Marvel heroes and villains, Black Widow (Snow Suit) can not be unlocked through Battle Pass tiers or completing challenges. Initially, the only way to acquire the skin is by participating in the Black Widow Cup.

The Black Widow Cup is part of a new tournament series revolving around the Marvel Knockout limited-time mode (LTM). This game mode utilises a specific set of rules and settings involving the usage of the Chapter 2 - Season 4 Mythic abilities.

The Daredevil Cup and Ghost Rider Cup were formatted as Trios tournaments. The Black Widow Cup will be the first Duo tournament in the Marvel Knockout Super Series.

Not only must players participate in the Black Widow Cup, but they must also place within a certain threshold in the standings to unlock this special skin. The required placements are as follows:

Europe – Top 1,200

NA East – Top 750

NA West – Top 300

Brazil – Top 300

Asia – Top 150

Oceania – Top 150

Middle East – Top 150

Players in these regions that meet the requirements will be gifted the Black Widow (Snow Suit) skin completely free. The Black Widow Cup will begin on November 11.

How To Unlock Black Widow Snow Suit Skin

Captain Marvel, Venom, and Black Panther?

The Black Widow Cup is part of a larger tournament series titled the Marvel Knockout Super Series. In the official blog post announcing the Black Widow Cup, Epic Games tacked on the following information:

The Marvel Super Series continues next week. Compete in the final two Marvel Super Series events in November:

Mystery Marvel Hero/Villain Cup (Knockout Duos) - November 18

$1 Million Super Cup (Duos) - November 21

This information confirms that we will be getting at least one more Marvel hero/villain skin. Based on leaks, it’s highly likely that the final mystery skin will be one of Captain Marvel, Venom, or Black Panther. In the Fortnite x Marvel comic book, there is a cover depicting both Daredevil and Ghost Rider. These two characters are joined by Captain Marvel, Venom, and Black Panther. Since we already have both Daredevil and Ghost Rider, chances are that at least one of the other three will be coming soon.

Additional Ways of Unlocking the Black Widow (Snow Suit) Skin

Thankfully for the casuals out there, placing in the Black Widow Cup is not the only way to unlock the Black Widow (Snow Suit) skin. The skin will be made available in the Item Shop following the completion of the Black Widow Cup.

The Black Widow (Snow Suit) skin will enter the Item Shop sometime after the conclusion of the tournament. In Ghost Rider and Daredevil’s case, the skin was placed in the Item Shop just three to four days later. There is no scheduled date as of now, but players can expect to see the skin in the Item Shop in the coming weeks. Until then, Black Widow (Snow Suit) will be exclusive to the Black Widow Cup champions.

How Much Will Black Widow (Snow Suit) Cost?

Based on Fortnite's Item Shop history, Black Widow (Snow Suit) will probably be priced at 1,500 V-Bucks. Ghost Rider and Daredevil, the other Marvel Knockout Super Series skins, were released in the Item Shop for this same price. Epic Games tend to follow the same pattern and keep its prices standardised. It's doubtful that the skin will cost any more or less V-Bucks. This seems fair considering the original Black Widow skin was also 1,500 V-Bucks.

Black Widow fans looking to add the Snow Suit variant to their collection should prepare ahead of time. Doing so will ensure they don’t miss the opportunity to purchase the secret agent hero. Have the V-Bucks ready and waiting on your account following the conclusion of the Black Widow Cup. Additionally, make sure to log in and check the Item Shop each day. Otherwise, players may risk missing Black Widow (Snow Suit) while she’s up for sale.

Worst case scenario, Black Widow (Snow Suit) will likely return later in the season. Epic Games would be tossing away money if they chose to lock these skins away after one appearance. The red-haired hero will almost certainly be back. Toward the end of the season, Epic Games might even throw the new Black Widow variant skin in with a bundle of other Marvel Knockout Super Series heroes/villains. We've seen it before.

Will There be a Black Widow (Snow Suit) Glider, Pickaxe, and Back bling?

When Black Widow (Snow Suit) does finally arrive in the Item Shop, she won’t be alone. Black Widow’s glider, pickaxe, and back bling have been found in the game files. The full Black Widow (Snow Suit) Bundle includes:

  • Black Widow (Snow Suit) Outfit
  • Widow’s Light Back Bling
  • Widowmaker Glider
  • Widow’s Fangs Harvesting Tool

If it’s anything like the Daredevil or Ghost Rider Bundles, the Black Widow (Snow Suit) Bundle will allow players to purchase the full set for a discounted price. In Ghost Rider’s case, the Ghost Rider pickaxe and glider were available separately for 1,200 V-Bucks each while the Ghost Rider wrap went for 500 V-Bucks. However, the pickaxe, glider, wrap, and skin could be purchased in a bundle for just 2,600 V-Bucks. If the goal is to complete the whole set, this would save 1,800 V-Bucks.

It’s refreshing to see the different methods of unlocking Natasha Romanoff. Black Widow (Snow Suit) can be unlocked for free by those willing to put in the effort. Otherwise, Black Widow (Snow Suit) will be purchasable in the Item Shop for a reasonable price. Either way, Make sure to play at least one match of the Black Widow Cup along with the last remaining Marvel Knockout Super Series cup to unlock the Nexus War Glider. Finally, keep an eye out for more information related to the upcoming Marvel Knockout Super Series tournament scheduled for November 18. Captain Marvel, Venom, Black Panther, and more could be on their way.
