We have some bad news for you.
If you are finding this article at the start of 2021, we have some unfortunate news for you. At the moment, the popular game mode Zombies is not available for play in Call of Duty: Mobile and a precise release date has not been set either. However, we have some indicators to go off that it might be coming back.
The good news is that the Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies App is still going strong on the app stores. However, it’s behind a paywall and is up for purchase at a price point of $6.99 and is not available anymore in European countries.
For the Call of Duty: Mobile app that had taken over the phone gaming sphere with its player base rising to over 300 million in 2020, the Zombies mode remains a seasonal game mode that at the time of writing, unfortunately, isn’t available. In a community update on Reddit dating back to March 2020, the developer revealed that the Zombies mode would be removed from the game.
The update stated: “We had always mentioned it was limited but with no explicit end-date. We wanted to see the reception, see the feedback, and see how we can potentially shape the mode for the future. However, the mode just didn’t reach the level of quality that we desire. The second map, Nacht Der Untoten, is also not releasing in the global version.
We may bring the mode back, with Nacht Der Untoten, once we can make sure it is high enough quality, but for now, we’ll focus on development for Multiplayer, Battle Royale, and Ranked Mode.”
On the upside, the statement suggests that the team is looking to improve the quality of the mobile experience of Zombies and bring it back stronger, working around the limitations of the mobile platform more.
Zombies, a game mode that requires players to survive against waves of the undead while acquiring currency and buying upgrades to be able to fend off increasingly strong attackers has been one of the most popular game modes outside the Battle Royale and Competitive Modes in the Call of Duty franchise. In a way essential to the COD experience, Treyarch has decided to bring it back in early February for their PC and Console title Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
