How to Dominate Public Matches in Modern Warfare
Modern Warfare is unlike any other Call of Duty title we’ve ever seen. The maps are huge and convoluted, weapons have dozens of attachments, and perks are almost useless. With such a drift from the previous titles, many players are still trying to figure out how to succeed months after the game’s release.
Whether it's figuring out which attachments to use, or how to navigate the maps, there’s never been this much confusion in public matches. However, we have a few simple techniques and tips that can help you dominate the opposition in every Modern Warfare playlist.
Which Classes Work Best for Public Matches?
As with any Call of Duty, your weapon will largely determine your success. If you use the best weapon, chances are you’ll perform better than if you equipped a pea-shooter.
That said, there are currently two guns that are far and away the best in the field. Since release, the MP5 and M4A1 have been at the top of every player’s most-used weapons list. Other guns are still viable, but these two weapons give you the best chance to succeed.
However, with so many attachments to choose from, it can be difficult to find the right combinations. If you’re still having trouble with this, don’t worry, because we’ve got you covered.
M4A1 class set-ups
For the M4A1, here are the best attachments to use:
- Barrel: Stock M16 Grenadier
- Optic: Cronen Reflex/Viper Reflex/ G.I. Mini Reflex
- Stock: Singuard Arms Invader/ M16 Stock/ No Stock
- Underbarrel: Operator Foregrip/ Merc Foregrip
- Rear Grip: Stippled Grip Tape/ Rubberized Grip Tape
Secondary weapon:
-
X16 Pistol/ M19 Pistol
Perks:
- Double Time/ E.O.D.
- Ghost
- Battle Hardened
Equipment:
- Lethal: Frag Grenade/ Semtex Grenade
- Tactical: Stun Grenade/ Flash Grenade
Using any one of the above combinations will give you a terrific advantage over other players. Although, some attachments are personal preference, such as the Reflex sights or the Rear Grip Tape. For example, if you’re more of a rush-style player, using Stippled Grip Tape suits your playstyle more than Rubberized. Just make sure you check each attachments’ description before equipping it.
MP5 class set-ups
Regarding the MP5, below you can find the best attachments to use:
- Barrel: FFS Light/ Subsonic Integral Suppressor
- Stock: FTAC Collapsible/ FORGE TAC Ultralight Stock
- Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
- Ammunition: 10mm Auto 30-Round Magazines
- Rear Grip: Stippled Grip Tape/ Rubberized Grip Tape
Secondary:
-
X16 Pistol/ M19 Pistol
Perks:
- Double Time/ E.O.D.
- Ghost
- Battle Hardened
Equipment:
- Lethal: Frag Grenade/ Semtex Grenade
- Tactical: Stun Grenade/ Flash Grenade
The MP5 is best used when running and gunning, so using lightweight attachments is going to be your best move. In order to beat an M4A1 at long-range though, you’ll need some accuracy-boosting attachments, like the Commando Foregrip.
Advanced Techniques to help conquer Modern Warfare
Having a solid class set-up is great, but that’s only half the battle. The experienced players also have knowledge of the maps and different techniques and strategies to help them win.
The biggest piece of knowledge you can have in a public match is understanding the map. If you don’t, enemies will appear out of nowhere.
In order to combat this, try to stay away from your teammates as much as possible. If you’re by a teammate, your chances of securing a kill goes down by 50%. Also, teammates generally aren’t near enemies on Modern Warfare’s huge maps.
Once you understand the map, you can start to implement more advanced techniques, the first of which is pre-aiming constantly. Camping is at an all-time high in Modern Warfare, so being caught with your gun down means certain death. If you’re rounding a corner, make sure to check that corner while aiming down sights.
Next up is picking routes on the map that aren’t in the line of fire. If you know an enemy is camping somewhere, don’t try to pick them off from a distance. Instead, attempt a flank route and get behind that enemy. The same goes for the middle of the map; you never want to run out in the open where there’s no cover. Stick to insides of buildings and the outer edges of the map.
Lastly, one thing many players don’t do effectively is using your equipment to your advantage. Stun and flash grenades can be a great tool to secure an easy kill on an enemy. Also, stun grenades disable claymores, which can catch a camping enemy off-guard.
If you know another player is sitting in a building, hurl a frag grenade through a window instead of going in guns blazing.
Using these techniques and strategies will eventually lead to success in Modern Warfare, if practiced enough.
