Hogwarts Legacy Could Be Coming To The Game Awards
There's magic in the air, as us wannabe witches and wizards could be in luck with some major Hogwarts Legacy news. As we sit and twiddle our wands, the latest reports claim Hogwarts Legacy could be a bit hitter at this year's Game Awards.
First announced at the PlayStation 5 reveal event in 2020, Hogwarts Legacy is the long-rumoured open-world Harry Potter game we've all been waiting for. Better yet, Avalanche Software's title is exploring a relatively uncharted era of the franchise by setting itself in the late 1800s.
Is Hogwarts Legacy Coming To The Game Awards?
Avalanche and Warner Bros. Interactive have stuck on their Cloak of Invisibility about Hogwarts Legacy, and apart from confirmation it had been pushed into 2022, we've heard literally nothing since January this year. That's a frankly baffling factoid, but hopefully, things are about to change.
Noted Hogwarts Legacy leaker Millie Amand claims WB has signed off on an "asset" for immediate release. Although she doesn't go into detail about what this entails, all signs point to either a cinematic or gameplay trailer. It just so happens the Game Awards is a week away, so it doesn't take a Gringotts goblin to do the maths here.
Not everyone was convinced though. In response to Amand's tweet, someone added, "Surely if it was going to be shown at the Game Awards then WB would have already signed it off? There is a chance it won’t be there, I guess." Also, remember an asset could be anything from a trailer to a piece of marketing artwork.
Why Do We Know So Little About Hogwarts Legacy?
As pointed out by Amand, both sides are apparently cautious after the backlash that's been levelled at Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. One gamer wrote, "Please, please!!! Don't cancel this! This is easily one, if not one of the most anticipated games!"
The game's official site has distanced itself from Rowling, while news of transgender characters has paved over some of the damage. However, there's no escaping her strong views on the transgender community and the fact she's still set to make a fortune off Hogwarts Legacy.
Many expected Hogwarts Legacy to appear at the recent Sony State of Play. There was a focus on third-party games, but instead, we were disappointed by reveals for the likes of Bugsnax and Five Nights at Freddy's.
We're hoping for at least some sort of Hogwarts Legacy news before the year is out, but who knows? Still, as one of 2022's most-anticipated games, Hogwarts Legacy has the opportunity to cast a spell over us all.
