Players are just a few months away from the release of Halo Infinite, but up until now it has been unknown what will happen to Halo: The Master Chief Collection (Halo: MCC) when the game finally drops. Will it still get regular updates or will 343 Industries leave it in the dust?

Well, 343 has confirmed they will be dropping seasonal updates for the collection following the new game launch on December 8, and said that while it’s not ideal for both games to receive a regular influx of updates, MCC will continue to get ‘small’ updates.

What Will The Halo: Master Chief Collection Updates Include?

In a blog post on Halo Waypoint, the developer revealed that the MCC will still continue to get content, fixes and features but only when they’re ready ‘based on development status and studio roadmap alignment’. 343 did confirm that the updates would be free, and will include a host of unreleased features and content from this year.

343 also clarified that they will still continue to fix any issues that may arise with the game despite the lack of focus on it, as well as improve stability when needed.

What Is Coming In Halo: The Master Chief Collection Season 8?

Despite the small update confirmation, the blog post also confirmed that Season 8 will be the final official update of this following calendar year for the Master Chief Collection.

343 said, "Suffice it to say that we're going to finish the year on a high note with a jam-packed season that's actually swelled in some regards as pieces once earmarked for later this year were pulled in to clear the landing zone for Halo Infinite.”

Season 8 is touted to be 'medieval-themed', and will begin on October 13. The season is called 'Mythic' and will give players the opportunity to earn armour sets, vehicle and weapon skins for Halo 3 that are themed around mythology, warriors and history.

Halo 3 is also getting a new Icebox map, and Halo 3:ODST Firefight is adding the Flood. There are also multiples changes that have yet to be announced, but are expected in the October update.

More will be shared on challenges, season points, the Exchange and multiplayer aspects early 2022. So if you’re relatively new to MCC, it’s worth getting your hours in now before Infinite releases. If Halo Infinite news is what you're after, then check out everything we know about a potential Halo Infinite battle royale mode.
