We've got some exciting news from the world of Halo Infinite, with a big update of what's going on with the delayed sci-fi shooter. It seems like an eternity since that disastrous Microsoft Games Showcase, Craig the Brute, and confirmation 343 Industries was taking the title back to the shop for a much-needed tune-up. Halo Infinite has a loose release date of later this year, but with its debut edging closer, we know a bit more about what to expect.

As with any Halo game, multiplayer is going to be a big part of the experience. Considering Infinite is going to be the biggest entry to date, we're also expecting an equally massive multiplayer. Only recently, Lead Sandbox Designer Quinn DelHoyo hyped multiplayer and how it will a Spartans story. Jack "CouRage" Dunlop has also championed the need for a battle royale Halo Infinite mode, but for the time being, it remains to be seen if developers will give fans what they want.

What's going on with Halo Infinite multiplayer?

Among all the big announcements and titbits trickling through, there's the return of a familiar face. Well, voice. 343 just announced that the legendary Jeff Steitzer will be back as the multiplayer announcer. For those who don't know who Steitzer is, he's voiced every halo game since Halo: Combat Evolved and was also the firefight announcer in Halo 3: ODST

During an #Ask343 YouTube video, one fan asked the audio team if Steitzer would be back. Confirming the big news, Lead Audio Technical Designer Chase Thompson said, "I can confirm that - yes, Jeff Steitzer will be back, and we are super excited to see how fans enjoy the new VO for the multiplayer experience".

Elsewhere, Music Supervisor Joel Yarger opened up about Saudi cues and explained the soundtrack will have a lot of mentioned offering that can't be revealed because it will spoil the story. Lead Sound Designer Kyle Fraser said the Plasma Pistol will have a familiar sound, and finally, Yarger promised 343 wants "streamers and content creators to be able to use the music of Halo Infinite in their content" without fear of a DMCA takedown.

What else do we know about audio in Halo Infinite multiplayer?

Late last year, Steitzer popped up online when he recorded lines for someone named Johhan. During the video, Steitzer said, "I hope that does the trick, coming to you from my little, tiny vocal booth". He goes on to recite one-lines like "Play ball", "millionaire", and "slayer". His signature vocals are sure to add some familiar flair to Halo Infinite. The #Ask343 videos have turned into a goldmine of reveals as a way to try and tide players over until Halo Infinite's eventual release. There's been a recent flurry of announcements, with the promise that novel character Spartan Griffin will make an in-game appearance.

Excitingly, Halo Infinite sounds like it will be approaching music in a different way. Yarger added, "You might be walking through the world and get a piece of music while you're just exploring that then carries over into combat engagement. Whereas if you just walking into the combat engagement without that piece of music playing, you get something else". While there's plenty that's new, we can't wait to hear Steitzer's iconic "Double Kill!" lines.
