Halo Infinite Used A Pug Called Gyoza For Its Alien Noises

While it's great news that Steve Downes is back on board to lend his vocals to Halo Infinite, the return of the OG Master Chief isn't the only voice talent to be one of the game's big talking points. Believe it or not, those at 343 Industries actually employed a pug to provide the noises for some of Infinite's aliens. It's a particularly weird story, but as the company gets ready for the release of the long-awaited sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, Gyoza the pug has been welcomed to the family.

Being a video game voice actor can be a lucrative business that has made the likes of Troy Baker a legend in the industry. Elsewhere, famous faces have also tried their hand at voice acting thanks to Mark Hamill voicing Joker in the Arkham games, Ellen Page appearing in Beyond Two Souls, and Samuel L. Jackson's signature vocals being heard in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It must be hard to be a pug voice actor when you have so many big names trying to muscle in on the market, but thankfully, Gyoza has it "licked".

Posting on the official Halo Instagram, 343 shared a clip of Gyoza in action. Just as her adorable name (referencing a Japanese dumpling) suggests, Gyoza is a real cutie. However, hearing her lend her grunts and snarls to Halo Infinite's alien enemies is an odd turn of events. She is apparently the best friend of the studio's Technical Art Director, who presumably brought Gyoza in to make these "interesting sounds".

Gyoza has become her very own furry Troy Baker as gamers couldn't get enough of her adorable face. One fan wrote, "If good pug boys are in the new Halo, I’m buying an Xbox", while another added, "Can we have more of this content? Or just this dog? I'll follow an account for a voice actor Pug". Mainly, people just wanted to know whether Gyoza would get the recognition she deserves with a mention in the game's credits.

For now, we're left guessing exactly what Gyoza will be playing in the delayed Halo Infinite. Popular choices include Gyoza giving sounds to the Jackals, Covenant Grunts, or Promethean Warriors, but either way, we'll have to keep our ears pinned back to listen for her.

We suggest closing your eyes and giving the video a rewatch to imagine how Gyoza will fit into the expansive world of Halo Infinite. Although we were hoping we'd be able to blast off with the latest entry when the Xbox Series X first hit shelves, players have been disappointed that Halo Infinite missed its November 10 release date and has been pushed to 2021. Even though we're rightly peeved, at least watching videos of Gyoza can help the time pass a little quicker.
