Where Does The Guangzhou Charge Go Judging By The Signing Of Kariv?
The Guangzhou Charge have signed flex support veteran Young-seo "KariV" Park to their roster. He's the first new player that the Charge have picked up this off-season as several more signings will be needed in the future.
The Charge had a relatively successful season in the Overwatch League, managing to win the Summer Showdown against the Shanghai Dragons. In the playoffs, the team underperformed below their average and fell short of qualifying for one of the two slots for the Asian region in the Grand Finals week.
What could be ahead for the Charge?
With the team around newly appointed head coach Ji-won "Arachne" Lee giving a first signal where the journey should go, we can reasonably extrapolate where the future might go. It appears that the team will hold the door open for their international roster approach, continuing to count on Chinese star player Ou "Eileen" Yiliang and Ki-cheol "Cr0ng" Nam. While there is a question mark around the contract status of Seung-Pyo “Rio” Oh as his term expires on Friday, November 13, it can be expected that the main tank will remain with the Charge for season 4. Beyond that, the team will require several additional signings. Over the past couple of seasons, Kariv rarely came without his companion Brady "Agilities" Girardi who interestingly is also relatively popular with Chinese fans. Furthermore, the team will require a main to support the likes of Chan-hee "Mandu" Kim or Sung-jun "SLIME" Kim coming into the next season. While Weida "Diya" Lu appeared to be a shoo-in for the Chinese organisation, the player has disclosed that he hasn't received any offers so far in the off-season. Lei "Jimmy" Yujia and Zou "Kayleee" Zijie are other players which are connected to the organisation for the role but are considered weaker players than Diya by experts of the Chinese community.
