GTA Online Adds Creepy Killer Clowns For Halloween
It’s been several years since clown sightings plagued the internet, popping up in seemingly mundane places and striking fear into the populace. Now all these years later, with Halloween around the corner, something similar is happening - creepy clowns are appearing in Grand Theft Auto Online and stalking players before murdering them.
What’s going on with killer clowns in GTA Online?
One user over on the GTA subreddit documented the occurrence, and it’s sent chills down our spines. Redditor u/punkpeep recorded the video where they pulled up in an alleyway directly in front of a creepy clown. In the video, the clown just stays eerily still the entire time, starting at the player until they get out of the car and aim their weapon at it. That’s when it pulls a knife and sprints at the player, swiping at them two times and killing them, while tanking bullets like mere Nerf darts.
Punkpeep does claim this is the second time it has happened to them, and also suggests it may be part of a Halloween event in-game, which seems to be the case. It turns out killer clowns aren’t the only stalkers, though. There is a masked killer inspired by Jason Voorhees of Friday The 13th who wields a machete and is nearly invincible, plus a stalker who’s on fire.
What else is part of the GTA Online Halloween event?
The villainous slashers appear to only be available in the city of Los Santos (the southern urban part of the map) and only spawn after twenty minutes of the player walking or driving around. They reportedly won’t spawn nearby if you’re using a boat or helicopter, but if they do spawn, they’ll continue to chase and attempt to murder you until you can return the favour or escape far enough away for them to despawn.
Serial killers aren’t the only thing to be scared of in this newest event, as a phantom vehicle is also stalking the streets, inspired by Stephen King’s Christine. The car can spawn in the countryside too, unlike the stalkers, and seems to blend in quite well if you’re in a vehicle. If you decide to go on foot at any point, though, the phantom car will turn on its bright red headlights and burst into flames, before trying to mow you down with haste.
For players wanting to get into a spooky mood themselves, there are some new cosmetic items like masks and clothes available through the in-game vendors. Rockstar haven’t stated how long the in-game Halloween event will last, so if you want to encounter the stalkers or the possessed car, you may want to hop in sooner than later.
