Dig out your POGs, put on some Boyz II Men, and check your dungarees still fit as you open up a Panda Pop - the '90s could be back in a big way. While Rockstar Games is still keeping it zipped when it comes to what's next for Grand Theft Auto, there's a fresh scoop from that ever-growing GTA 6 rumour mill.

There's no escaping the legacy of GTA V, and despite the fifth main series entry releasing back in 2013, the fact we're due the Expanded & Enhanced edition proves Rockstar has no plans to abandon the game any time soon. Remembering GTA V is the most profitable entertainment product of all time, we're not exactly surprised. Still, we'd like even a glimmer of GTA 6

Where will GTA 6 be set?

Posting on Twitter, one eagle-eyed fan thinks they spotted a clue to GTA 6's '90s setting. In the latest trailer for Expanded & Enhanced, there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it inclusion of a sports car that has a number plate reading "6 is a late 90's". There could be nothing to it, but given the flurry of hype surrounding GTA 6's setting, it's entirely possible there's more to the story.

The Twitterverse was split, with fans unsure whether this is a coincidence or an actual clue from those sneaky Rockstar devs. One excited gamer wrote, "I wanted something back in the 70s/80s. Late 90s, if true, wont make it any different than GTA3 which was set in 2001. Either way im a 90s baby so I'm excited."

However, critics said, "I think it's a random plate and they're gonna keep selling GTAV" and "R* is trolling us and you're falling for it hook line and sinker". A typically p*ssed player concluded, "This is honestly getting kinda sad. GTA fans are starting to see patterns where there simply are none. It's not coming guys. Y'all keep spending your money on GTA V, GTA VI ain't coming."

What do we know about GTA 6's setting?

The idea of a '90s setting isn't too out of line with what we've heard before. Admittedly, we've read a lot of stuff about where/when GTA 6 could be set. As well as Vice City sequel, there have been reports of a Vice City continuation set in the '90s, as well as another modern game thanks to the use of cryptocurrency

It's true though, we're currently looking everywhere for even a sniff of GTA 6 - meaning it's become an obsession for some. Players thought they'd found a teaser in the Cayo Perico Heist trailer, but at the time of writing, all our tin foil theories have turned up nothing.

In terms of GTA 6 will be announced, dates have flipped between next year to many years from now. The biggest critics think Rockstar isn't even working on GTA 6 yet. At this rate, we'll be booting up the game on the PlayStation X and Xbox Series Z.

Every week there's a new leak of maps or screenshots that's usually quickly debunked as fake. Thankfully, loyal GTA 6 supporters think Expanded & Enhanced will at least give a taste of what's to come. Whether the '90s setting is on the money or just another wild reach into the dark abyss of GTA rumours, you're probably going to have to wait a while to find out.
