It has been confirmed that a Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR version is coming to Oculus Quest 2. During a Facebook Connect livestream, Meta (formerly Facebook) CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, confirmed the news, much to the delight of GTA fans.

What Do We Know About The Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR Version So Far?

During the livestream, Oculus confirmed that the "project has been many years in the making", so in terms of a release date - we really don't know much. It could be this year, it could be years from now.

Zuckerberg said: "This new version of, what I think is one of the greatest games ever made, will offer players an entirely new way to experience this iconic open-world in virtual reality."

Do we know literally anything else? Sadly not. But hopefully, some more news will be coming soon, as Zuckerberg continues on his mission to complete the metaverse. The news of a San Andreas VR comes in the wake of Rockstar finally confirming the long-rumoured GTA Trilogy exists.

Alongside GTA III and Vice CitySan Andreas makes up a third of the impressive bundle. Still, if a San Andreas VR port is on the way, you can keep your trilogy. Either way, the news follows in the footsteps of Oculus' recent Resident Evil 4 VR release.

What Is The Metaverse?

'Metaverse' appears to be the hot topic of the internet right now, following Mark Zuckerberg's in-depth look into his vision of the future. But what exactly is it? Basically, it is an online world where members of the public can communicate, work, and game in a virtual environment.

Facebook recently said: "Facebook is at the start of a journey to help build the next computing platform. Working with others, we’re developing what is often referred to as the metaverse - a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences using technologies like virtual and augmented reality. At its heart is the idea that by creating a greater sense of 'virtual presence', interacting online can become much closer to the experience of interacting in person."

News recently broke that he is looking to hire 10,000 new staff in the EU (European Union) to develop the concept further.

In a blog post, Facebook said: "The metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social, and economic opportunities. And Europeans will be shaping it right from the start." Now that GTA is part of the Metaverse, there will be no stopping Zuckerberg!
