I've spent endless hours scouring the internet and the aisles of GAME to find a headset that works in not only gaming, but in everyday life too. With a need to ensure clarity on both console gaming and across conference calls, finding a headset that can complement both is rather tough. So, when I rushed to the store to pick up a replacement for my third headset of the year, I was expecting nothing more than to be disappointed by this stopgap, and to be etching a new one onto my birthday list - especially at the retail price of around £30. However, as I dropped into my first game, my expectations had been propped up and hit for a home run.

For me, gaming is often used as a break from reality. Akin to other players, the feeling of being able to plunge themselves into worlds unknown takes away from the stress of day-to-day life. Diving into games and connecting with players across the globe is the experience that every headset should have in mind when creating their product. Gioteck's newest TX-50 comes with the inexplicable feeling of complete submergence into the gaming sphere, whilst hardly feeling present.

Compatibility and Design

The TX-50 comes in two designs. The Playstation 5 version will come in a sharp wintery white coat with an ice-cold blue finish, whereas the Xbox version comes in a matte black form with a cumbersome dark green touch. Compatible for both generations of consoles and PC through a simple aux jack, the sleek and simple headset is available for all gamers.

Avoiding the wire-infested jungles of other headsets, the TX-50 comes with a single wire, with an adjoining switch where you can control its volume and power. An elementary switch will determine whether your microphone is active, and with the ability to clamp the switch to your hood or jumper toggles, it makes for a comfortable fit.

As for the headset, gaming in this makes you feel like your head is swimming in a cloud. After thirty seconds, you're no longer sat in your chair, you're in the front seat of the Camp Nou, watching Lionel Messi bend a free-kick over the wall. You'll be the subtle breaths exerting from the frosty throat of an Assassin  Valhalla. You'll be the crackle of flames in the wreckage of a plane destroyed by a .50 calibre snipe to the inner engine. No longer will you be in your front room sat with a rock on your head, the TX-50 will have you submerged into the game, as you forget it's even on.

The Alcantara cushioning hovers the headset above your skull, and as the vapour-like 50mm high impact drivers clinch around your ears, the outside world vanishes. Often jibed as a Dumbo-look-alike, Mickey Mouse gimmick, or a real-life satellite, because of the size of my ears, this headset eradicated any discomfort and simply allowed for the soundwaves to connect with my brain.

Sound Quality

Now to the important part. The quality of sound in your headset is crucial to the experience that you achieve from gaming. Not just in breaking away into a game, but for performance too. The direction of the elephant-like footsteps created by enemies unsuspecting of your stealthy flank can pinpoint your exact moment to pounce. Get it slightly wrong, and your game could collapse around you. Simply said, a headset's sound quality can directly correlate to success within games.

The Gioteck TX-50 has an exceptional quality of sound, albeit it is slightly quieter than others. With a tinkering of the in-game audio settings, the headset can be optimised in any which way you'd like. Admittedly, you may want to look for a setting that boosts the difference between effects and music, although this can be found in every game's options.

Overall, for £30 there are few products that will give you this level of expertise in gaming. The microphone picks up some background noise but is crystal clear according to my party, which is its only semi-criticism. For starters to advanced gamers, the TX-50 is a perfect headset. For more advanced esports professionals, you may want to look for something slightly more advanced though.
