Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is coming. No, we don't mean the Sega Genesis classic - the sequel to the surprisingly not-atrocious Sonic the Hedgehog movie is fast approaching. Apparently, it's got plenty to share at The Game Awards.

We know we're getting a trailer, as revealed by Jim Carey and Ben Schwartz at the prestigious event, showing Tails in action for the first time since he was teased. Added to this, there's an Idris Elba-voiced Knuckles that we've been assured will be "not sexy".

We'll be the judge of how sexy an echidna is, thanks. Judging by one person's tweet, there could be even more to come.

Geoff Keighley Teases Sonic Cinematic Universe

After the film's first poster was revealed, and the news that its first trailer would appear at The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley has chimed in with his thoughts on the trailer.

"Guys… I'm not sure we are fully ready for the Sonic Cinematic Universe", he says in a Tweet. "The trailer is… insanely good!" Well, if it's good enough for Mario, it's good enough for Sonic.

This could just be another joke from gaming's most earnest spokesperson, but it's got fans thinking - what could we really see from Sonic The Hedgehog 2? What new characters from the Sonic games appear, and are more SEGA franchises getting the movie treatment.

Who Could Appear In Sonic The Hedgehog 2?

If there are more new character reveals to come from this sequel - beyond the arrival of Tails and Knuckles - then it'll likely come at the end of the film for another sequel tease, if they're confident they'll get another film out of the franchise. And if they do, we'll put money on the appearance of Shadow the Hedgehog.

Who knows, we might even get Rouge the Bat as well, with Amy, Cream and Big the Cat for good measure. Truly, only time will tell how the film will turn out - but The Game Awards will give us our first taste of the new Sonic the Hedgehog adventure. Kino incoming.
