While Sony is edging ahead of Microsoft in terms of next-gen console sales, the Xbox Series is snapping at the heels of the PlayStation 5. Added to this, the fact Phil Spencer now has the keys to everything from Redfall to StarfieldThe Outer Worlds 2 to the (eventual release of) The Elder Scrolls 6, you'd be foolish not to own an Xbox Series X/S.

As Nintendo sits pretty with the Switch being the best-selling console of 2020, the PlayStation and Xbox factions continue to duke it out as their own worst enemies. There have been shortages of both next-gen consoles, but if you head over to GAME, the gaming giant has a sweet Xbox deal.

What is the GAME deal?

According to GAME, you can trade in your old console to get some serious money off the Xbox Series S. The best deal means players will be able to swap the Xbox One S for the Series S AND a copy of FIFA 22. You'll have to pay £149.99, but considering most of us will be looking to upgrade from the current generation of consoles, it's a truly tempting deal.

If you don't own an Xbox One S, there are tonne of other options to shave some dollars off your Series S price tag. Those who trade in the OG PS4 500GB can get the same deal for £159.99, but if you have a PS4 Pro 1Tb Console, it'll go down to just £104.99. The cheapest deal sees the Nintendo Switch Console being traded in for an Xbox Series S and FIFA 22 for £84.99.

The promotion runs from October 1 until October 10, so you'll have to be quick. Gamers can trade-in an Xbox One S, PlayStation 4 Slim, or Nintendo Switch for £159.99 (or less). Doing some quick maths, the standard price of an Xbox Series S bundled with FIFA 22 IS £319.98. Considering you can nab a Switch for £259, you'll be paying over the odds by around £24 to get the GAME deal.

Things are even worse if you fancy trading a 500GB PS4, because it would cost you £410 if you went out and bought one, just to get the same £320 deal from GAME. The maths might be a little off for some, but as we assume GAME has the consoles in stock - and there's an ability to pay on credit - it "might" be something to look at if you want to get rid of an old console.

What's going on with Xbox stocks?

Much like "sold out" signs have replaced PS5s on virtual shelves around the world, Microsoft has faced the same problems with the Xbox Series Family. The global pandemic has led to a shortage of components, and coupled with us all being locked in our homes, it means popularity has massively outweighed supply. If you were expecting things to get better, Spencer has warned us not to be so optimistic.

Speaking to TheWrap (via VGC), Spencer predicted stock struggles will continue into 2022: "I think it's probably too isolated to talk about it as just a chip problem. When I think about, 'what does it mean to get the parts necessary to build a console today, and then get it to the markets where the demand is'...I think regretfully it's going to be with us for months and months, definitely through the end of this calendar year and into the next calendar year."

With Christmas just around the corner, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are sure to be the top of everyone's lists - meaning deals like GAME's should be snatched up while they can. If you haven't booted up Halo Guardians on the Xbox One in a while, now could be a good time to think about a trade.
