After becoming a part of the furniture upon the League of Legends World Championships stage, there was a samurai shaped hole at Worlds 2021, as G2 Esports failed to qualify for the first time in many years. Now, the LEC stalwarts are on a rebuilding mission, making three players available for transfer whilst already eyeing two replacements.

G2 Esports CEO Carlos "Ocelote" Rodríguez confirmed that their world-renowned League of Legends side will be pulled apart for the 2022 season, with Martin "Rekkles" Larsson, Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle, and Martin "Wunder" Hansen facing the axe.

The trio have been identified as the expendable positions, whilst Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski and Rasmus "Caps" Winther will remain on the roster alongside the new recruits.

Now, according to reports from Dot Esports journalist Pablo "Bloop" Suarez, G2 Esports have already identified two replacements that will sign for the prestigious organisation when the free agency window opens later in November.

Former MAD Lions Bot laner Victor "Flakked" Lirola is reported to be signing with G2 Esports as their AD Carry for the 2022 season, alongside Karmine Corp's rising star Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé.

Flakked will come in over Rekkles, who struggled in his opening season for G2 Esports, having made the switch from rivals Fnatic as Luka "Perkz" Perkovic departed. Perkz is heavily linked to be returning to the LEC having spent the season at Cloud9 in the LCS, however, it appears a reunion with G2 is off the cards as Team Vitality look to form a "supersquad".

Targamas will be making the step-up to G2 alongside Flakked, having previously won the European Masters with Karmine Corp. The Support player has already performed well in scrims, according to the reports, even playing against some of the World Championships teams.

G2 Esports aren't the only organisation looking to rebuild in the off-season, as the majority of the LEC have identified players that will help the region catch up to the teams in the east. Team Liquid, Fnatic, and MAD Lions are all expected to strengthen ahead of a revitalised effort in the new season.
