G2 Caps Signs One-Year Extension Amid Roster Breakdown Rumours
For the first time in six years, G2 Esports will not be attending the League of Legends World Championships, despite reaching the final four three years in a row.
Their early regular-season woes provided too much of a mountain to climb to qualify for the championships in which they normally shine, as European foes Fnatic toppled the giants and put an abrupt end to their revival chances.
Now, after a dismal season, rumours have begun to surface that the G2 Esports could be removing several players from their roster to overcome their problematic year.
Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther won't be amongst those to face the purge though, as the re-born Mid Laner has put pen to paper on a one-year extension with the European team.
The 21-year-old Danish dynamo was originally contracted to G2 until 2022, however, the Global Contract Database now shows Caps' expiration date being November 2023.
Neither the Mid-Laner nor his organisation has commented on the contract extension.
Despite also extending his contract to November 2023 in December, reports have recently suggested that Martin "Rekkles" Larsson could be on his way out of G2 Esports.
According to esports journalist Thorin, amongst other sources, Rekkles could be sold by G2, just a season after signing for the team from Fnatic. The move would come just one year after G2 cashed in on Luka "Perkz" Perković who transitioned over to North America for Cloud9.
G2 Esports will still be happy in securing Caps' signature despite a topsy-turvey 2021 season, with the Mid Laner being one of the most decorated players in Europe. The two-time LEC MVP will likely spearhead the G2 roster back to greatness next year.
