Considering FIFA 21 promised 100 icons and actually delivered 101, does this mean there's room for a few more along the way? Just like Super Smash Ultimate has been drip-feeding us the occasional extra fighter, there might be more players sitting on the substitution bench.
Another big change is the fact squad management items have been given the boot from FIFA 21. Previously, players would spend a small fortune on fitness cards as training cards took up unnecessary space in packs.
The latest notes explained, "Fitness items have been a light management element in Ultimate Team since the very beginning. The decay of players' fitness was put in the game originally to encourage rotation in the squad and to simulate some of the management decisions that football squads have to consider.
"However, we've evaluated these mechanics and have decided that it wasn't creating the desired effect in rotation and players were spending time doing a management action that was frequently required and, ultimately, not very fun.
"So this year, while Fitness and Player Stamina will still be important factors inside of a match, dictating, for example, how much you can sprint and for how long, you will no longer have to manage that mechanic in the menus as well."
With a new generation of consoles just over the horizon, FIFA's mammoth roster of icons pushes the title toward becoming a must-buy ahead of its October release. Considering there's so much on offer, It looks like FIFA 21 won't be forced to hit the showers early.
