Challenges have become a critical part of the Fortnite experience. Challenges offer players a creative and interesting way to earn bundles of XP. Completing challenges is essential for levelling up the Battle Pass and unlocking exclusive skins like Lara Croft and Raven from Teen Titans. Additionally, players can now “super level”. Super levelling allows players to exceed Season Level 100 and unlock unique “Relic” styles for certain Battle Pass skins.

Week 9’s challenges focus largely around the Storm. Players must enter the dangerous purple circle and complete a series of tasks.

Each Week 9 challenge grants a sizable 24,000 XP. Completing all seven Week 9 challenges will grant players a whopping 168,000 XP. With less than a month to go in Chapter 2 - Season 6, every ounce of XP is crucial. Players need to act fast if they aim to collect all of the Primal season’s exclusive cosmetics.

Behind a week or two on challenges? Don’t worry — we have you covered. Check out our Week 8 or Week 7 Challenge Guide if you need help completing any challenges from previous weeks.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at our Challenge Guide below for an in-depth breakdown of every single Week 9 challenge and the best course of action for completing them.

Activate a Rift by purchasing it from a Character (1) - 24,000 XP

Longtime Fortnite players likely have fond memories with Rifts. Rifts first appeared in Season 5, and these mysterious wonders have only expanded in the time since.

In Chapter 2 - Season 6, players can actually purchase Rifts through the non-playable characters (NPCs) scattered around the Fortnite island. Certain NPCs on the island will sell Rifts to players for 245 Gold Bars. There are six specific NPCs that players can purchase Rifts from. This includes:

  • Raz – Located in the main building of Colossal Crops
  • Rebirth Raven – Located in a house on a hill north-west of Sweaty Sands
  • Cabbie – Located outside of a building on the southern side of Lazy Lake
  • Castaway Jonesy – Can be found on the small island at the far north-east corner of the map
  • Willow – Can be spotted wandering around Weeping Woods

The sixth NPC capable of selling Rifts is Bunker Jonesy. Unfortunately for us, Bunker Jonesy does not have one set spawn location. Bunker Jonesy spawns in one of ten random locations each match. For this reason, we recommend purchasing a Rift from one of the other five NPCs. However, here are Bunker Jonesy’s spawn points if you feel inclined to check:

  • In a house east of Catty Corner past Mount Kay
  • In a house on the southern coast of the island below Misty Meadows
  • In a house south-east of Catty Corner
  • In a shack on the hill east of Misty Meadows
  • On the Camp Cod island at the southern edge of the map
  • At Rainbow Rentals on the beach south-west of Holly Hedges
  • On the island with the lighthouse north-west of Stealthy Stronghold
  • In a house on a hill north-west of Steamy Stacks
  • In a shack south-west of Slurpy Swamp
  • In a house north-west of Holly Hedges

Speaking to any of the NPCs above will present players with the option to activate a Rift. Upon activation, players will be teleported high into the air and can soar down to the destination of their choosing. Enjoy the 24,000 XP and the trip through the sky.

Hunt a Boar (1) - 24,000 XP

By now, most players are probably familiar with the variety of wildlife roaming the Fortnite island. One of the many creatures players will encounter in their travels is the Boar.

Boars are aggressive creatures that turn docile when fed fruit or vegetables. Boars are usually found in the farmland areas of the map.

Colossal Crops is home to a pen with a guaranteed spawn of Boars. These Boars are trapped inside the pen, making them easy targets for a hunter.

Head to Colossal Crops and grab the first gun you see. Use it to take down a single Boar and complete this challenge.

Spend seven seconds within seven metres of a fleeing Chicken (1) - 24,000 XP

Like Boars, Chickens spawn near farmland areas. However, Chickens actually flee from players when startled.

This challenge requires players to chase down a fleeing Chicken. All you’ll need to do is approach a Chicken, and it will start to run away. Keep on its tail, but don’t grab it yet. The challenge will complete once the player has spent seven seconds next to the startled Chicken.

Gain health in the Storm (1) - 24,000 XP

The final four challenges of Week 9 all revolve around the Storm. If you weren't aware, the Storm is the dangerous purple force that encircles the safe area of the map.

These challenges can be completed in any playlist, but it’s most easily done in Team Rumble. In Team Rumble, players can usually do their own thing on the outskirts of the map while everyone else is focused on brawling in the centre. Plus, you’ll come back to life after elimination, allowing you to resume whatever it was you were doing.

While inside the Storm, players will be continuously dealt damage. The amount of damage dealt depends on the phase the Storm is in. The damage dealt is minor in the beginning stages of the game and increases as time goes on and the Storm shrinks.

This challenge requires players to gain health while inside of the Storm. To do this, players will need to get their hands on healing items such as Bandages, Med Kits, or Floppers. Loot a couple of chests, search some buildings, or go fishing until you find some medical supplies.

With meds in hand, travel toward the intimidating Storm that encompasses the map. Enter the Storm and use one of your healing items to replenish your health. The challenge will complete the second your health bar is refilled.

Shockwave Grenade yourself while in the Storm (1) - 24,000 XP

Shockwave Grenades have many uses, one being an on-the-go method of fast travel. Players can use Shockwave grenades to propel themselves great distances. This is perfect for escaping a sticky situation or even rotating out of the incoming Storm.

This challenge asks players to use a Shockwave Grenade on themselves while in the Storm. Unfortunately, Shockwave Grenades are an Epic rarity item. This means that they are relatively rare. Players may need to search for some time before stumbling upon a stack. Shockwave Grenades can be found in chests, as ground loot, in Supply Llamas, and Supply Drops.

The hardest part of this challenge is finding a Shockwave Grenade. With one in hand, head out to the Storm. Toss the Shockwave at your feet and enjoy the flight. The challenge will complete while you’re soaring through the air.

Survive Storm phases (5) - 24,000 XP

This is Week 9’s freebie challenge. Players must survive five Storm phases.

Every couple of minutes, the Storm will shrink. Each occurrence of this is called a Storm phase. Players must live through five different Storm phases to complete this challenge.

Players will complete this challenge by simply playing the game. Unless you die immediately off spawn each match, the challenge will finish in a game or two. If you’re playing Team Rumble, you’re guaranteed to finish this challenge in one match.

Build in the Storm (10) - 24,000 XP

The final Storm-related challenge asks players to build in the Storm. Players must build ten total structures while inside of the deadly Storm.

Gather up material of any kind. In total, you’ll need 100 pieces of material. With your material in hand, head toward the Storm. Once inside the purple ring, begin spamming random builds. The layout and type of build do not matter. Week 9’s final challenge will complete once ten structures have been placed within the Storm.
