Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 6 Challenge Guide: Week 5
Challenges have become a critical part of the Fortnite experience. Challenges offer players a creative and interesting way to earn bundles of XP. Completing challenges is essential for levelling up the Battle Pass and unlocking exclusive skins like Lara Croft and Raven from Teen Titans.
Week 5 introduced a brand new item: Off-Road Tires. This common rarity item can be used as a vehicle mod. Vehicles equipped with Off-Road Tires are capable of traversing treacherous terrain with ease. Additionally, these tires can be thrown beneath a player to avoid fall damage.
The majority of Week 5’s challenges are vehicle-related. Over half of the challenges require the player to pull off interesting feats in a vehicle. Fortnite players that can harness their NASCAR skills could earn 168,000 XP through Week 5’s seven challenges.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at our Challenge Guide below for an in-depth breakdown of every single Week 5 challenge and the best course of action for completing them.

Deal damage with SMGs (1000) - 24,000 XP
Week 5 kicks off with a pretty simple challenge - deal 1,000 total damage with SMGs.
Team Rumble is the ideal playlist for this type of challenge. Once you find an SMG, it is yours for the rest of the game. When you are eliminated in Team Rumble, you respawn back in with your inventory in tack.
There are three different types of SMGs in the current game. The standard Submachine Gun, Primal SMG, and the Makeshift SMG. The Makeshift SMG can be upgraded into either a standard SMG or a Primal SMG through the Crafting system.
Once you have your hands on one of these SMGs, all that’s left is to deal damage to opponents. Play aggressively and shoot on sight. Players should be able to deal 1,000 damage in a game or two of Team Rumble.
Search Ammo Boxes (5) - 24,000 XP
Each week usually has a “freebie” challenge. This is Week 5’s freebie. Players must simply search five Ammo Boxes total.
There are no further restrictions on this challenge. Any Ammo Box anywhere on the map will do. Ammo Boxes are commonly found in places like room corners, under staircases, and on top of cabinets.
Lazy Lake is a prime location to complete this challenge. The main building alone has over 15 Ammo Boxes inside. Find and search five total for a free 24,000 XP.
Use a campfire (1) - 24,000 XP
Campfires are scattered all throughout the Fortnite island. Players can use these campfires to heal HP without the need for Bandages or Med Kits.
There are dozens and dozens of Campfires all around the map. Players likely walk past one each and every game. Be on the lookout for a Campfire next time you jump out of the Battle Bus. Approach the Campfire and interact with it to start a fire. A bonus of 24,000 XP is now yours.
Modify vehicles with off-road tires (3) - 24,000 XP
Off-Road-Tires are a new item introduced this week. These special tires can be found as floor loot in Gas Stations and their attached garages. Players will need to equip three different vehicles with Off-Road Tires to complete this challenge.
Tossing a set of Off-Road Tires onto any drivable vehicle will change its appearance and better its off-road capabilities. Vehicles equipped with Off-Road Tires can move swiftly over difficult terrain and even drive straight up mountains.
Pleasant Park and Retail Row are great spots to search for Off-Road Tires. It's possible to find three sets of Off-Road Tires at both of these locations without the need to venture further around the map. If you do head to Pleasant Park, save one of the amped-up vehicles for Week 5’s final challenge.
Search Gas Stations, garages, and the surrounding areas for this common rarity item. Toss each set onto a different vehicle to be awarded 24,000 XP.
Drive from Sweaty Sands to Colossal Crops without leaving the vehicle (1) - 24,000 XP
First, land at the Gas Station at Sweaty Sands and grab a vehicle. Feel free to add a set of those Off-Road Tires for faster travel.
Next, place a marker at Colossal Crops. With your destination marked, make a beeline toward Colossal Crops. You’ll need to go off-road a bit, but that shouldn’t be an issue with your new tires. Also, avoiding the roads will lessen your chances of running into enemies and being forced to exit your vehicle.
Players will receive 24,000 XP upon arrival at Colossal Crops. Remember: don’t exit the vehicle at any point, or the challenge will fail.
Maintain a speed of 65 or greater for four seconds in a vehicle (1) - 24,000 XP
The Whiplash is the only vehicle in the game capable of reaching speeds of 65. The Whiplash’s appearance is that of a slick sports car. The Whiplash spawns randomly, but it does have three possible spawn locations in Sweaty Sands. So, feel free to save time and complete this challenge in unison with the one above.
The main highway within Sweaty Sands offers a perfect straightaway for this challenge. Players can track their speed using the speedometer on the bottom right corner of the screen.
Get in the driver’s seat and put the pedal to the metal. Hold down the gas and boost whenever possible. Maintaining this high velocity for four seconds will complete the challenge.
Get two seconds of airtime in a vehicle (2) - 24,000 XP
The vehicle-based challenges keep on coming. Week 5’s final challenge asks players to get two seconds of airtime in a vehicle.
There are a couple of routes players can take when approaching this challenge—the first starts at Pleasant Park. If you already completed Week 5’s other challenges, you may already have a vehicle with Off-Road Tires at your disposal. If not, grab a set of Off-Road-Tires from the Pleasant Park Gas Station and equip them to any vehicle.
From here, drive up northeast to the Spire. Navigate the vehicle up the staircase to the Spire Cannon. Drive the vehicle into the cannon. This will send you flying, easily racking up two seconds of airtime.
The other spot to complete this challenge is on a ledge just south of Apres Ski Lodge. There is a boat hanging off of a skinny ledge on the side of the mountain. Get inside the boat and drive it down the steep mountainside. Halfway down, there is a path lined with yellow cones to serve as a ramp. Boost off, and you’ll go soaring into the ocean. This will give you the required two seconds of airtime.
