Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 5 Challenge Guide: Week 9
Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 5 is heating up. Bounty Hunters have taken over the island, from Master Chief to Predator. However, one thing always stays the same: challenges.
Challenges offer players the opportunity to complete a specific task and receive XP in return. Completing challenges throughout the season is essential for levelling up the Battle Pass. Some players love the activity of challenge hunting. For others, it may feel like a chore. Regardless, they are a necessity for those looking to earn all of the exclusive rewards.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at our Challenge Guide below for an in-depth breakdown of every single Week 9 challenge and the best course of action for completing them.
Shakedown an IO Guard (1) - 20,000 XP
IO Guards are aggressive NPCs that were newly introduced in Chapter 2 - Season 5. IO Guards attack on sight, similar to the Marauders from two seasons ago. Take note that IO Guards do not spawn in Team Rumble or any other limited-time modes. IO Guards only spawn in groups of three, and they rise up from underground via elevators.
IO Guards spawn all around the Fortnite map. A few common spawn points include:
- Northeast of Stealthy Stronghold
- The north side of Coral Castle
- West of Pleasant Park
- East of Fort Crumpet (POI)
- On the hill of the Holly House (POI)
- Outside the Durrr Burger (POI)
- West of Salty Towers
- Weeping Woods (Near the camper vans)
- Risky Reels (Near the entrance)
- The island northeast of Craggy Cliffs
- South of Slurpy Swamp
- Hunter's Haven (In the centre)
- Mowdown (POI) (Middle of the track)
- East of The Orchard (POI), northeast of Steel Farm (POI)
- North of Lazy Lake, near Gorgeous Gorge (POI)
- Next to the cooling towers at Steamy Stacks
- Lake Canoe (POI), near the houses
- Near Rapid's Rest (POI)
- Misty Meadows (Next to the river)
- Next to the hut at Camp Cod (POI)
Be very careful when fighting groups of IO Guards. If you down all of them, they’ll all be eliminated and you won’t get a chance to shake one down.
Try downing one and then boxing up the downed IO Guard. Then, Shake the guard down before the rest break into your box. This should give you enough time to complete the challenge and avoid elimination.
Find a hidden bunker (1) - 20,000 XP
Right now, there are three hidden bunkers around the map. We aren’t sure yet which one this challenge will require you to visit, so here are the locations of all three.
The first bunker can be found on the small island in the far north of the map. It’s hidden under the fishing shack on the east coast of the island.
The second bunker is on the coastline east of Retail Row. It’s hidden in a bush between two trees. Destroy the bush to reveal the bunker.
The final bunker is out in the ocean between Holly Hedges and Slurpy Swamp. Players will find the bunker submerged beneath the water.
Find the crashed plane’s black box (1) - 20,000 XP
The crashed plane can be found on the grassy island south-east of Coral Castle. Within the wreckage of the plane, players will find a black box with two reels of tape on it. Once found, just interact with the box to finish the challenge.
Deal damage while in water (200) - 20,000 XP
This one is as simple as it sounds. You’ll need to deal damage to players while you're floating in water. The body of water doesn’t matter. It can be a lake, river, or ocean.
We suggest targeting a body of water around a popular landing spot. For example, the river south of Salty Towers. Chill in the water and wait for a target to ambush. Unleash fire on any enemy players you see until 200 damage has been dealt.
Emote at stone statues (1) - 20,000 XP
The stone statues are positioned very close to the third hidden bunker from above. On the eastern shoreline between Holly Hedges and Slurpy Swamp, there’s a circle of stones with cryptic engravings on them. Perform any emote while in the circle to complete this challenge.
Ride the Steamy Stacks (1) - 20,000 XP
This is probably one of the easiest challenges we’ve ever seen. Just head to Steamy Stacks and jump into one of the tall stacks the location is named after. Take the wind to the top, and you’ll receive a free 20,000 XP.
Deal damage to a loot shark (500) - 20,000 XP
A simple task, Week 9’s final challenge asks players to deal 500 damage to loot sharks.
Our favourite place to find loot sharks is off the beaches of Sweaty Sands. Hang out on the beach and wait until a loot shark appears. Have your weapon ready and fire away until 500 damage is dealt.
