Fortnite Dataminers Uncover Massive Season 5 Live Event

All good things must come to an end, and when it comes to Fortnite seasons, that's no exception. Off the back of the Marvel-packed Chapter 2 Season 4, Epic Games had a mountain to climb to prove the battle royale train could keep on chugging. The Season 4 Galactus live event broke the game's concurrent player record and was a runaway success as it turned the title into an on-rails shooter. This wasn't the end though, and with the Zero Point torn open, it was straight into Chapter 2 Season 5.

Since early December, we've rattled through the Battle Pass, enjoyed all the festive fun of Snowmando, and even more Marvel madness with the Marvel Royalty and Warriors Pack. If that wasn't enough, the Predator snuck into Stealthy Stronghold as a secret skin, various rifts have opened across the map to honour everything from The Walking Dead to Street Fighter, and we even saw a touch of the galaxy far, far away as Kit's Cantina dropped by as a last-minute POI. Everything has been working toward this, which dataminers think is a massive live event on a par with Galactus.

What is the Fortnite Season 5 live event?

To figure out what's going on, those devilish dataminers have sand tunnelled their way into the game's code and unearthed what's coming in the final Chapter 2 Season 5 update. Looking at where we are currently, it's clear something's up with the Zero Point. While we're used to hopping in and being spat out - even being part of last week's tasks - the mythical POI is a bit unstable these days. The v15.50 patch update might be the last of the season, but as expected, it's a goldmine of information about what's on the way.

Notable dataminer Mang0e points to several "reality waves". There are four of them in the code, suggesting the live event will actually be split into several parts. Getting us excited for what's on the way, four mini-events leading to a bigger endgame is an interesting prospect. Added to this, something is going on with the NPCs, as Mang0e claims they could find themselves being transported from their usual locations and also being affected by the reality waves. We need to bear in mind that the idea of mini-events is just Mang0e's speculation, but still, it's easy to imagine that's what's going on. As it stands, the fractured Zero Point is ominously hanging up there and giving off some seriously creepy vibes.

What else do we know about the Fortnite Season 5 live event

Elsewhere, HYPEX has unearthed audio from the destabilised Zero Point and suggests things will get even crazier as we tick toward the final live event. Sources claim voice chat will be affected, which sounds like a novel approach, but is sure to be annoying for those trying to organise squads using the in-game chat function. The Zero Point is already giving out pulses, and like a ticking time bomb, something is brewing in the back end of the game's files. All in all, we're guessing the map is about to be rocked by something big.

The overarching story of Season 5 has been Agent Jonesy trying to wrangle various characters from escaping The Loop. He's employed the best hunters around to do it, but by the looks of it, his plan is failing. Since Chapter 2 Season 5 first launched, people have been asking more about who Jonesy is working for and whether we could see the re-emergence of The Seven to flesh out the lore of Fortnite. Putting everything together, it's likely the Season 5 live event will be another puzzle piece in Chapter 2 as Epic teases another chapter reset like "The End" in 2019. Whatever Fortnite has planned, get ready for an "epic" Chapter 2 Season 5 swansong with the Zero Point (quite literally) at the centre.
