Fortnite players, both casual and pro alike, have been struggling to cope with skill-based matchmaking for a long time, but their prayers have finally been answered in the latest update by Epic Games. The developers have completely removed the SBMM system for Squads in the Battle Royale, after massive internet outcry. SBMM still remains in the Duos queues.

Epic Games themselves have not made an official announcement regarding the removal of SBMM as yet, leading some to believe this is a glitch, although unlikely.

SBMM was controversial at its launch at the start of Chapter 2 Season 1 and was flawed from the outset. Skill-based matchmaking was put in place as an improvement system, to pit players against each other with similar skills, in an effort to prevent frustration. In reality, it did the opposite. The majority of Fortnite players were irritated by the new system, finding matches more and more difficult, to a point where it felt like a true Competitive mode.

Pro Fortnite players were incensed by the SBMM changes and took to Twitter to voice their opinions.

Now SBMM has been removed in Squads, players can breathe a sigh of relief, as they can put away the deodorant they once needed on hand for their sweaty matches, including the pros.

No word yet on whether this removal could spread to Duos mode or even Solos in the future.
