It's time to rock out with your rods out as Epic games has introduced a new Fortnite fishing competition to Chapter 2 Season 4. We may be well into the Marvel-themed Season 4 and exploring the likes of Doom's Domain, the Black Panther monument, and the new addition of the Collector's Museum, but that hasn't stopped Epic asking you to take some time away from saving the world and sit back with a spot of fishing.

While getting R&R and lounging by the watering hole might be a million miles away from the usual high-octane action, developers have started to push unusual mechanics that take battle royale games away from your standard point and shoot. Beating enemies and taking the crown in Fortnite is still the main objective, but that doesn't mean you can't indulge in some more peaceful pastimes. Epic has announced its new fishing competition as part of the update 14.10.

Posting on Twitter, Epic encouraged fishing fans to get involved in the new Catch of the Week competition. This week, you're being asked to snap your best shots of a Blue Flopper and share it social. There's no news on whether there's any prize involved, so it might just be a bit of fun.

When it comes to fishing, Epic explained, "Everyone on the Island has been given a standard-issue Collection Book to chart fishing collection. While in a match, open your map and cycle to the ‘Collection Book’ tab to see all the shapes and styles of fish you’ve caught and even some hints at where to find the ones that got away. Chart your biggest catch and rank yourself against your friends to see who is the top fisher".

Although fishing isn't for everyone, it can be a great way to get an edge over the competition in Fortnite. Only recently, we covered the potential exploit of how fishing for a Rare Spicy Fish and combining it with a Pepper can stack to give you super speed that would rival even Marvel's Quicksilver - allowing you to move twice as fast as other players.

The start of Chapter 2 introduced the fishing rod, which can be used as a melee weapon or in a more traditional sense to actually catch fish. Even if fishing hasn't been the most popular feature ever introduced, it played a big part in the nautical Chapter 2 Season 3 that flooded the map and saw Aquaman take a dip into the game.

There was also Fishing Frenzy 2020, that saw 40 players dropped into the map with just a fishing rod and a pistol. Players could then fish for better loot and take out opponents until they were the last one standing. Even if the latest fishing event isn't on the same level in terms of action, it's sure to offer some nautical respite from all the Marvel murder and mayhem. Now might be a good time to head out onto the lake and practice your casting skills.
