The end is nigh for Fortnite Chapter 2, and with Chapter 3 presumably out there somewhere, the rumours are jumping off the Battle Bus and into action. We can barely move for Fortnite Chapter 3 rumours, but the latest is a doozy. Apparently, Chapter 2 could be coming to a close much sooner than we first thought.

Following the rules of Chapter 1, things should be rounding off with a mythical Fortnite Chapter 2 Season X. We're currently in the midst of Season 8, and with each season running for an average of 11.5 weeks, it would mean we'll be well into 2022 before Chapter 3 launches - or will we?

What's The Latest Fortnite Chapter 3 Rumours?

A bizarre fan theory has popped up online, which claims Chapter 2 Season 8 could be the end of the current map. Just like Chapter 1 Season X's "The End" sucked the OG map out of existence, we're expecting an equally cataclysmic turn of events to keep things fresh for Chapter 3.

Posting on Twitter, noted leaker HYPEX reminded us that we're currently at the exact point Chapter 1 came to an end. With Chapter 2's seasons ranging from an achingly long Chapter 2 Season 5 to the current season being a little shorter, it means we're currently at just over 747 days.

They note that some of this chapter's extended seasons have lasted over 100 days, meaning we've overtaken its predecessor. Putting the pieces together, some think this confirms Chapter 2 Season 8 will lead straight into Chapter 3 Season 1. To be honest, we're more than happy with that idea - it's no secret that some think the current Fortnite model is getting a little stale.

What Do The Latest Fortnite Chapter 3 Rumours Mean?

Looking at the bigger picture, it definitely feels like we're working toward some sort of chapter endgame. Notably, the arrival of the Cube Queen taking up residence in the middle of the map teases she'll be a massive part of this chapter's end. Among those championing Chapter 3 on December 5 are Ali "SypherPK" Hassan.

Elsewhere, there are whispers of weapon attachments, some Apex Legends-inspired sliding mechanics, and the idea that Epic is preparing to move over to Unreal Engine 5 for a very different Fortnite. If that wasn't enough, the maligned Fortnite mechs are tipped for a return. Remembering they previously popped up in Chapter 1 Season X, it's more than a little suspicious.

If you still weren't convinced, a massive leak in July that revealed the Ariana Grande concert and the Sideways ahead of time said that the Cube Queen would have a big role to play in Chapter 3. Personally, we just can't see Epic dragging this story out for another two seasons. Then again, Fortnite earns a pretty penny, so we also don't see why the developer would cut its money-making potential short.
