It's time. Fortnite Chapter 3 is finally underway. After the relatively minor downtime for such a big engine change, Fortnite is finally back with more features than ever. With a brand new map, new characters added to the battle pass, and the promise of more Spider-Man content to come, Chapter 3 Season 1 is shaping up to be the best yet.

Fans might think they know it all already from their hours already invested and following leaks on Twitter - but there's one feature they might have missed, and it's one that fans have wanted for a while.

Players Can Drop Items When Downed In Fortnite Chapter 3

A new feature has been added to Fortnite that allows them to drop items for their teammates when they've been taken down in Chapter 3.

The feature is a handy one, especially if your teammates are struggling in a bullet battle and need some more firepower or heals. Fans have asked for this feature for years now, and it has been quietly added to the game in the latest update.

Fans have discovered the feature in a video posted to Twitter, revealing a player dropping some building materials for a teammate while shuffling away from the fight.

This could definitely come in handy - but it has come at a price.

Fortnite Removes 'Shakedown' Feature In Chapter 3

As penance for the new feature, Fortnite no longer allows players to shakedown downed players, allowing them to see their teammates for a brief period.

It's a bizarre omission, leaving fans wondering why Fortnite chose to remove one 'downed' feature to replace it with another, but perhaps it was simply a choice made to help balance the game.

Either way, it's a strange change - and it's only up to players to decide if the trade-off was worth it. In the meantime, we're looking forward to the arguments that form when your downed teammate won't give up their best gun to help out.
