A former League of Legends world champion has allegedly been arrested on suspicion of trafficking drugs, as the Taiwanese government are cracking down on the distribution of marijuana in the country.

Lau "Toyz" Wai Kin, previously of Taipei Assassins, Fnatic, and Hong Kong Esports, was reportedly cuffed on September 29, with local media suggesting that a large amount of the category two drug was found in his place of residency, with evidence inferring that he had an intention to sell. Reports suggest that a warrant to search his home in New Taipei was issued the day prior, and the police soon found the drugs in his possession.

According to the laws in Taiwan, persons guilty of possession with intent to sell category two narcotics can be jailed for up to five years, and fined for a total of five million New Taiwan dollars (roughly £133,000).

Taiwanese media publication, Taiwan English News, reported that Toyz was held by the authorities overnight as they awaited tests for drug use, leaving the former world champion behind bars.

Toyz won the Season 2 World Championships in League of Legends for Taipei Assassins, just one year before SK Telekom T1 came to the forefront of LoL. The former professional was expected to have made just shy of £200,000 from his playing days in esports, before returning to the scene as a coach for G-Rex in 2017.

He also spent just a month on the Fnatic coaching staff in 2014 for their World Championship venture, where they reached the final four.

Following his exit from competitive gaming, the LoL star moved to content creation, notching up almost 700,000 subscribers on YouTube, almost 200,000 followers on Instagram, and over 400,000 followers on Facebook. Often uploading League of Legends videos and some IRL food content, Toyz may be forced to see this section of his career be put behind him.
