The future's bright, the future's neon. Unless you've been hiding under a gaming rock for the past month, you'll undoubtedly have heard about the problems that have plagued CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077. The sprawling first-person shooter was tipped to be one of 2020's biggest games, and while it's definitely lived up to that promise, it's not necessarily for all the right reasons.

With glitches, substandard graphics, and even lawsuits from investors, Cyberpunk 2077 was also spectacularly pulled from the PlayStation Store as Sony and CD Projekt Red offered refunds across the board. Despite the controversy, developers are looking ahead to what will (hopefully) be a much better 2021. Alongside a fully next-gen upgrade for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, there's the first of the game's DLCs.

CD Projekt Red has already teased an impressive roadmap that will keep Night City populated for years to come. The first Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is stop number one on this futuristic journey.

First Cyberpunk 2077 DLC: What is it?

CD Projekt Red has officially launched the first Cyberpunk 2077 DLC landing page. There's not much to explore for the time being, however, the big takeaway is the fact it's coming in "early 2021". There's no exact date, but launching alongside, or just after, the next-gen upgrade would be one way to reward patient players who've stuck with the title through its troubled debut.

The message also reaffirmed the DLCs will be free - following in the footsteps of the developer's other games like The Witcher. In September, we were promised there would be more information soon on what the DLCs would involve, however, we were dealt a blow last month when CD Projekt Red President and joint-CEO Adam Kicinski said the plans had been delayed.

During the company's Q3 earnings call, Kicinski said, "The initial plan was to do it before release, but after the recent delay, we decided to wait for the release to provide gamers with the game and then start talking about future projects. So, after release". Admittedly, a landing page, single frame, and brief teaser aren't much to go off. But now that some of us have already rounded off the game's sprawling story, it's time to look at what's next.

First Cyberpunk 2077 DLC: What else do we know?

CD Projekt Red has also pointed to 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for an idea of what to expect. We're guessing a Cyberpunk Geralt of Rivia won't be popping by, but in terms of content, we're told that Cyberpunk 2077 will have at least as many DCLs as Wild Hunt. Considering there were 16 DLCs and two massive story expansions that kept the game fresh until 2016, it's clear Cyberpunk 2077 isn't going anywhere for a while.

Now that devs are powering ahead with the game's post-launch DLCs, the next big hurdle is multiplayer. Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 might have one of the biggest stories we've seen a while, but that hasn't stopped eager beavers demanding to know more about multiplayer. Unfortunately, you'll have to make the most of the main campaign and DLC for a while because the latest Cyberpunk 2077's rumours claim it could be 2022 before you get to suit up and blast your friends to pieces.

Either way, things are improving with Cyberpunk 2077 as CD Projekt Red hopes to put the whole debacle behind it. If you're playing on PC, why not pass the time waiting for the first Cyberpunk 2077 DLC by trying out some of the many mods that have come pouring out of the game's creative community?
