Fans Warn Bethesda To Stop F*****g With Skyrim

Bethesda

Even though some of us can't wait to grab our fishing rods to head out into the world of Tamriel with the upcoming Skyrim Anniversary Edition, others have called out Bethesda's apparent money-grabbing metrics with The Elder Scrolls series and warned the acclaimed developer to stop f*****g with Skyrim

While there have been more Skyrim ports than we'd care to count since The Elder Scrolls V released in 2011, some have cottoned onto the fact the 10th-anniversary edition does little more than add fishing to the game. Yes, we've wanted fishing in Skyrim since it first came out, but is this really enough to warrant a whole new release?

Why are players angry at Bethesda?

You might think most people would be happy with a rerelease of one of the best-selling video games of all time, but the general consensus seems to be that Bethesda is flogging a (not-quite) dead horse. In an angry post on Reddit, u/One_Wedding7059 vented, "Is it just me or do you guys think they need to stop f*****g with Skyrim and work on remastering Oblivion or Morrowind".

Instead of just repurposing Skyrim again, the OP asked for Bethesda to revisit older games like 2002's The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind or 2006's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's no secret that development on the franchise has crawled as the wait between entries continues to grow, but seriously, what's with the Skyrim obsession?

Others championed the idea of other remakes and called out the acclaimed developer for putting all it's eggs in one basket. One irate reader wrote, "For real. Honestly, other than graphics and melee/ranged combat, Skyrim is a drastically inferior game to Oblivion. I play RPGs for the quests and stories, and the ones in Skyrim were mid at best, while oblivion's quests are absolute bangers."

Another added, "Honestly? I would love to see oblivion with the graphics of skyrim and more voice actors. That would be enough for me to go on a little longer", while a third concluded, "This f*****g bullsh*t about them never updating the engine is insane to me. They aren't going to remaster it because it's a giant money/time sink just to try pleasing a small bitchy portion of their consumers that won't like it no matter what they do with it. Whereas Skyrim is easily ported to newer consoles with some graphical bumps and has millions of players still playing and demanding it."

What's next for The Elder Scrolls?

The Elder Scrolls Morrowind

Sadly, we shouldn't expect things to change any time soon. Someone simply joked, "But I still have several appliances in my home that can't play Skyrim yet!" - and it's not hard to see where they're coming from. Only recently, Xbox boss Phil Spencer warned there's going to be a big wait until The Elder Scrolls 6. Even though we hoped the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft might speed up the process, it's quite the opposite.

Putting it simply, Microsoft is already busy beavering away on its own IPs like Fable to focus on The Elder Scrolls 6 yet. You only have to look at the lengthy development of Starfield to show Bethesda's protracted release schedule is only going to get worse.

On the plus side, we recently heard word that Bethesda could be forming a new studio solely for remaking old favourites. Morrowind and Oblivion were quickly the top of everyone's wishlist, but at the time of writing, the news isn't official yet. Knowing our luck, there will probably be another Skyrim release for your air fryer, where you can pet a moose.
