Evil Dead: The Game Delayed - But There's A Good Reason
If you fancy flicking through the pages of the Necronomicon, Saber Interactive has confirmed you'll have to wait a little longer. While some of us are already revving our chainsaws in anticipation, Evil Dead: The Game has officially been delayed until 2022.
Giving Sam Raimi his first rung on the Hollywood ladder, and making Bruce Campbell the star he is today, the Evil Dead series has become a cult classic since it first clawed its way into our lives in 1981. All these years later, we've had a trilogy of movies, a reboot, TV series, and many video game outings.
Why has Evil Dead: The Game been delayed?
Posting on Twitter, the game's official account confirmed that Evil Dead: The Game has been officially delayed. Although it was originally slated to release this year, the tweet says the bloody shooter is now targeting a February 2022 window.
Announced at December's Game Awards, Evil Dead: The Game takes all the demon-blasting fun of the movies and Ash vs Evil Dead, wraps them in a co-op or PVP experience, and gives you a massive arsenal to take them out with. Evil Dead: The Game looks like it will bring all the fun and frights of the franchise, however, the latest update is great news for those who want to go it alone.
Even though there are arguments that single-player campaigns are on the way out, there are still a lot of us who want to head to the cabin in the woods on our own and kick some Deadite butt, without having to team up with someone else or go against rival players.
There are no further details about what the single-player campaign will involve, but it could follow the events of the various movies. As long as there's a trip to the Middle Ages, we don't really mind.
What have fans said about Evil Dead: The Game being delayed?
Despite Saber's frank honesty and promises of a better game, there are obviously those who are unimpressed with the fact Evil Dead: The Game has been delayed. Thankfully, most saw the benefit of the delay. One fan cheered, "Well, nothing can be as bad as the PSOne version. That was one of the worst games I have every played. So, the fact you're taking time to brush up on things is a good thing".
Another gave a nod to the disastrous copyright debacle of Gun Media's Friday the 13th: The Game and mused, "Yes a single player element is much needed to really experience the evil dead experience. I feel that way at least. I just don't want the game to end up Friday the 13th it's not a good comparison but for movie franchise gone game it's similar".
A third concluded it's probably for the best and added, "Please take all the time you need to make sure the game is as good as it can be, and to make sure your employees are not being crunched to death. We will wait patiently. Ignore the haters."
To be honest, we're pretty numb to game delays these days. Everything from Far Cry 6 to Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed. At least Saber is trying to manage expectations and we (hopefully) won't be struck by another Cyberpunk 2077 debacle of rushing a game to meet deadlines. At least we've got plenty of time to go back and brush up on Ash's adventures until Evil Dead: The Game comes out.
