Everything We Know About Battlefield 2042

After months of clamouring and years of waiting, we finally have our first look at the latest title in the Battlefield series, now officially confirmed to be titled Battlefield 2042.

The game has been a long time coming and has been regarded in circles of exciting fans as the defining title of the next generation of gaming. The official reveal gave us a taste of what’s to come, but in the meantime, plenty of details about the next-gen shooter have come to light. Here’s everything we know about the game so far…

The story of Battlefield 2042 takes place in the near(ish) future on an Earth wrought by resource wars created by climate change, as crops fail and drinkable water becomes sparse. The game will allow you to play as Russia and an MEC funded guerrilla group formed by refugees, and will contain what is supposedly a “No Russian”-grade controversial sequence that’s sure to rustle a lot of feathers.

Battlefield 2042’s Specialists

Four playable specialists have been leaked for the game so far. In an early leak from Henderson, it was suggested that the game’s story would feature hired “specialists” that operate on behalf of global superpowers, so these characters are thought to be those freelance specialists with their own individual abilities and tactics. We have our first look at the game’s specialists courtesy of BattlefieldPlug on Twitter; they seem to go by the names Maria Falck, Pyotr Boris Guskovsky, Wikus Casper Van Daele and Webster Macay.

As revealed before the launch broadcast by Tom Henderson, the game is set to boast a battle pass system akin to that of modern Call of Duty. He expands on this in a tweet explaining some rewards that the pass will offer:

The game, as it standard for many games nowadays, will, of course, have its own upgraded special edition. The ‘Ultimate Edition’ for Battlefield 2042 will include:

• Early access to the game via the open beta, and access to the ultimate version of the game on October 22
• The Baku ACB-90 melee takedown knife, Mr Chompy Epic Weapon Charm, Landfall Player Card Background and Old Guard Tag
• 4 new specialists (one for every season of the 1-year pass), 4 battle passes, 3 epic skin bundles (Blistered Earth, Tempest, and Cold Blood)
• Shadow Stalker Legendary Outfit, Obsidian Legendary Weapon Skin, Onyx Legendary Vehicle Skin
• Official digital artbook and exclusive digital soundtrack

Battlefield 2042's Release date

The release of Battlefield 2042 is set to occur on October 22, with a full gameplay reveal coming on June 13, so we won't have to wait long to get a good look at how the game will play either.

That’s all we know about the latest Battlefield title so far. The game looks like a stellar entry into the shooter series and a great game that’ll define the next-gen era. We can’t wait to get our hands on it and jump straight into the fight.
