Epic Games Court Documents Reveal Exciting Plans For Rocket League
Epic Games' impact on Rocket League has been astronomical, to say the least. Taking the title free to play, alongside a range of promotional campaigns and an esports scene designed to give every player an open route to stardom, has put Rocket League on track to becoming one of the most successful games available.
However, behind the scenes, Epic has been tussling with competitive tech giant Apple, resulting in a lawsuit between the pair. As Epic was launching their first defence to keep the doctor away, one presentation has been revealed to the public that contains a lot of sneak peeks at what is to come in their titles.
Whilst many of the bombs dropped are related to Fortnite, specifically skin lines in collaboration with major celebrities, the slides also show exciting information regarding the mobile Rocket League title coming to Android later this year - and iOS, depending on the outcome of the suit.
Rocket League Sideswipe Leaks
The mobile app, referred to in the slides as 'Rocket League 2D' - although we know it as Sideswipe - appears to be set for a launch in mid-September, and will have two-dimensional gameplay.
The game will boast either a 1v1 or 2v2 team stylistic that can be played out on game modes such as Standard Rocket League, Hoops, and "more" according to the report.
The report also suggests that both Alpha and Beta tests will be rolled out in Q2 of 2021.
Will Rocket League: Mobile be Cross-Progression?
The simple answer is, yes.
The report indicates that "cross-play, cross-progression between mobile, PC, console" will all be made available.
In addition to this, Rocket League Sideswipe will also feature controller compatibility, as well as touch controls, to allow for a more dynamic experience to those filtering over from the console titles.
Friends lists and gameplay incentives will also be combined between the mobile version and its bigger brother.
Epic's last attempt to combine with mobile lead to the lawsuit that they reside in today; hopefully, Rocket League Sideswipe will see an easier transition into the stores.
