Epic Is 'Considering A Fortnite Monthly Subscription Cost'
The winds of change are blowing in toward the Fortnite map, and no, we don't mean the upcoming Christmas-themed Chapter 2 Season 5. While Epic Games has kept its battle royale favourite free-to-play, there are whispers that a new monthly subscription model could soon be rolled out. Although the game will remain unchanged for most of us, this is sure to kick up a fuss with arguments of pay-to-win.
Paying to play Fortnite is nothing new for those who regularly part with their cash for the Battle Pass. In particular, the recent Marvel Battle Pass offered A LOT of bang for your V-Bucks with the usual price of ÂŁ7.50/$9.50. Now, it sounds like Epic is trying to cash in on the coin by asking players whether they'd be interested in paying a little more for a monthly subscription.
What would a Fortnite monthly subscription look like?
Famed Fortnite leaker FireMonkey showed a survey that Epic has reportedly been sending out to gauge interest in a monthly subscription service. According to the survey, Epic is toying with a price plan ranging from $5 up to $18.99. It's a pretty broad spectrum, but at least we're being given options here.
The idea is that signing up would get you 1000 V-Bucks (worth ÂŁ6.50/$8, a free skin set, and the current Battle Pass. Although the usual Battle Pass season runs for around three months, we've seen how this can vary significantly.
Opinions were divided, with some loving the idea and others hating it. One player wrote, "I prefer the annual pass. 4 battle bundles for $80 doesn’t sound bad. Too bad it got scrapped". Another added, "So its not an actual thing yet there just asking if this is something people would be interested in? I hope this isnt going to be some kind of forced replacement for the battle pass and you have to subscribe if you want to get the battle pass".
Would you pay for Fortnite monthly subscription?
The general consensus is that it's a pretty solid idea that would be a suitable replacement for the canned Annual Pass. However, others pointed out that 1000 V-Bucks doesn't get you a lot in today's Fortnite market. As it stands, Uncommon shop items are 800 V-Bucks, Rare are 1200, Epic 1500, and Legendary cost 2000. Still, another potential feature hinted at in the survey was early access to the Battle Pass - which is sure to be a big winner.
Of course, it's all "ifs" and "buts" for now. Interestingly, there are wild reports Season 5 will "change" Fortnite forever. Many have taken this to mean a supersized catastrophe similar to Chapter 1's "The End", however, it sounds like Epic also has big plans for the way Fortnite works behind the scenes. All in all, Epic making the most of its monetary potential couldn't come at a better time considering that bitter rivalry with Apple rages on.
