EA Apologises For Mass Apex Legends Ban
EA has been forced to apologise to players after they inadvertently banned swathes of innocent Apex Legends accounts, as they attempted to crackdown on the amount of offensive battle royale club names.
Earlier this week (July 29), reports began surfacing from affected players. Despite following the rules set by the publisher, and not violating any terms of service, the players' accounts had been subjected to bans.
According to Dexerto, many people reported that the bans were a result of them being in some way affiliated with battle royale clubs whose names had been deemed 'offensive'. Unfortunately, the bans were supposed to be warnings, however due to an error they were swiftly struck with the ban hammer.
How Many People Have Been Affected By The Apex Legends Bans?
It's hard to say, currently. However, an Apex Community Manager by the name of EA_Mako said the following: "Sorry for the confusion on this one. While a number of warnings did go out for this, it looks like there were a small number of suspensions that unintentionally accompanied those warnings in some cases."
One player commented: "My account has been disabled. I received an email with a warning from EA stating that I had gone against guidelines in Apex Legends due to the name of the club I was in. They stated it was a warning with no consequences... I have contacted EA with no response, and am so confused."
How Can You Get Unbanned In Apex Legends?
The Community Manager, Mako, did suggest that players should try the following:
- Restart Apex Legends
- Sign out
- Sign back in
If the problem persists, you need to reach out to EA’s Terms of Service team to 'start the account-return process manually'.
