Dr Disrespect Managed To Sneak Into This Year's Super Bowl
Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, aka Dr Disrespect, is one of the biggest content creators in the world, so it makes perfect sense he's part of the biggest sporting event of the year. As all eyes were on 2021's very different Super Bowl LV, there wasn't the usual buzz of the crowd at Florida's Raymond James Stadium. Although the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got to take on the Kansas City Chiefs, COVID-19 meant the stadium wasn't packed with crowds. The Super Bowl is usually a who's who of famous faces, but if you look closely enough, you might've spotted Dr Disrespect.
In a strange turn of events, viewers are baffled that Super Bowl LV managed to pack 25,000 people into a stadium in the midst of the pandemic. Around 7,500 of them were healthcare officials, while social distancing meant everyone was supposedly kept at a safe distance. Adding to distancing, there were a further 30,000 cardboard cutouts to pad out the audience. Although most of them looked like generic stock characters - we're looking out for Hide the Pain Harold - there's more to the story and at least one familiar face in the crowd.
How did Dr Disrespect get into the Super Bowl?
Posting on Twitter, Dr Disrespect shared a snap of him sitting in the Super Bowl stands - well, a cardboard cutout of him. He captioned the picture with "VIP minimum", joking that he's rightly earned his place at this year's American football spectacular. Better yet, Disrespect's cutout made it into the official Super Bowl broadcast, meaning his face was broadcast to the masses. For the past 11 years, over 100 million have tuned in for the Super Bowl, and while this year's figures aren't out, it's expected coronavirus will have given the numbers another boost.
The general public was given the chance to be part of the legendary event as a way to claw back a lack of ticket sales. Fans who paid $100 and sent in a picture were immortalised in cardboard cutout form. It's a fun idea, but also means the NFL made a cool $3 million from creating a distanced audience. Then again, $100 is a lot cheaper than the average Super Bowl ticket price from 2020, which was a bank-busting $6,381/£5,607. We're guessing Disrespect stumped up the $100 to appear in the audience, which is likely to be small change to the high-earning streamer.
Where is Dr Disrespect in the Super Bowl?
With Dr Disrespect still banned from Twitch, no one knows why he was given the boot. Ironically, the man himself hinted that he was permanently banned from the streaming platform for costing too much money. It's no secret that Beahm ruled the roost on Twitch and had a whopping four million followers before he was banned. Making a name for himself with H1Z1, Disrespect moved on to play everything from Call of Duty: Warzone to Fortnite. Even though his time on Twitch is at an end, he's continued his success over on YouTube.
Appearing in the must-watch sporting event is a clever move for Dr Disrespect, who's managed to inadvertently promote himself by popping up in the background. Not bad for just $100. Hopefully, things will be back to normal next year, meaning Doc could try and wangle his way into the Super Bowl for real. Forget The Weekend's performance this year, who else can see Dr Disrespect performing a stirring rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at 2022's halftime show?
