Dr Disrespect Already Has An Issue With Battlefield 2042
As one of the biggest in the business, Herschel Beahm IV - aka Dr Disrespect - has passed judgement on DICE's Battlefield 2042. After the disappointing reception of 2018's Battlefield V, EA's flagship franchise is taking a leap to the future, with a battle-torn Earth that's ravaged by warring factions and extreme weather conditions.
Although Battlefield has the honour of being the first out of the gate, the long-standing rivalry with Activision's Call of Duty franchise is sure to rear its head alongside Battlefield 2042. Dr Disrespect might be usually associated with CoD, but with the pro player keen to put Battlefield back in his crosshairs, he has one major issue with the game.
What does Dr Disrespect think of Battlefield 2042?
With all those Vanguard rumours and continued reports that Activision is in trouble with Call of Duty 2021, it allowed EA to slip through the gap with a pretty impressive-looking Battlefield 2042. While most of us were blown away by these supposed next-gen capabilities, Doc isn't quite so sure. In fact, Dr Disrespect claims he's seen better graphics on his Xbox 360.
Discussing his Battlefield beef on YouTube, Dr Disrespect combed through the 2042 trailer and paused on several shots to dissect the game's graphics. When watching the pre-alpha gameplay, he mused, "So this is on Xbox, I assume? I have to be honest, I'm not trying to come out of the gate here. I think, what I have to do when it comes to Battlefield 2042, is here's my expectations [with a low hand gesture], and hopefully, they're exceeded".
A seemingly unimpressed Doc added, "I’ve gotta be honest, I’ve seen better graphics on Xbox 360 man". After he messed with his video settings, he then baulked, "This is in 4K, right?"
What else has Dr Disrespect said about Battlefield 2042?
Doc wasn't alone in his assessment, with others calling out the graphics we've been shown. Unlike most showcases, some claim what we've been shown so far doesn't represent the finished product.
Titles are often ripped apart for over delivering on graphics in glossy trailers *cough* Cyberpunk 2077 *cough*, only to deliver a subpar final product. There are also concerns about how well the game will run when at full-tilt with 128 players in a match, but we'll have to wait and see.
Dr Disrespect definitely seems excited for Battlefield 2042, and after claiming he's "done" with Call of Duty: Warzone, he's expected to pour a lot of time in DICE's wartime outing.
Elsewhere, Dr Disrespect echoed what many of us have said, and called out DICE for not including a battle royale mode for Battlefield 2042. Discussing players who claim battle royale is "played out", he raged, "Are you guys idiots? BR is just getting started. So much you can do, so many different engines, so many different fictions and games, and designs. The hell are you guys talking about? These are the same people that are trapped in a box".
Making his battle royale hopes clear, he concluded, "I want the multiplayer but I also want BR too, especially on that engine. Woo". Sadly, while Battlefield 2042 can probably tweak its graphics with ease, it looks like our (and Doc's) battle royale dreams will be shattered. Here's hoping this is one shooter series that has a few more tricks in its arsenal.
