Dr Disrespect Annihilates Apex Legends In First Game Back
Someone call a medical professional because it looks like Apex Legends is going to need a doctor. They say you can't keep a good player down, and months after saying he'd never return to Respawn Entertainment's hero shooter, Dr Disrespect is back to (briefly) annihilate the beloved title.
While the Two-Time is best-known for his prowess on the Call of Duty battlefield, that hasn't stopped him from dabbling in everything from H1Z1 to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
These days, Doc is known for ripping apart the likes of Battlefield 2042, however, he's back to tear Apex a new one.
How did Dr Disrespect annihilate Apex Legends?
Much like Felix "xQc" Lengyel, Doc is never one to hold his tongue. With a surprise return to Apex Legends on June 30, it didn't take long for the outspoken streamer to start laying in to the fan-favourite game. During his stream, an enraged Doc made his feelings clear when he landed in a decidedly average 12th place.
"Do you see how soft and skinny this f*****g game is? It’s just shooting shields", raged Doc. "There’s a reason why I don’t play it. It’s boring. I don’t know what else to say". Viewers told him to try a ranked game, and hopping in for another, Doc moaned, "I’m falling asleep playing the game".
A defeated Doc said, "I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open playing these games", and eventually concluded, "Everything seems tedious, I'm done, I'm done playing the game. I'm good man, I'm good, I don't even care". Packing it in for the evening, Doc said he was reading emails on his third monitor and was "struggling" to stay interested. All in all, it's a pretty damning review.
There's clearly no love lost between Dr Disrespect and Apex Legends, but we've got to ask, is it all for show? There's no denying the popularity of Apex, and while it doesn't have as much of a streamer following as something like Fortnite or CoD, it's still going strong in Season 9 and looks to be a game on the rise.
Will Dr Disrespect return to Apex Legends?
Despite Dr Disrespect's apparent hatred for Apex Legends, these sorts of stream pull in the big numbers in terms of viewers. Doc's lengthy Apex stream rounded off with over 400k views - which isn't too bad in our books. Part of his appeal is the overdramatised nature of his personality. Let's remember Disrespect has uninstalled Apex on numerous occasions, so we don't imagine this is his last rodeo.
Most recently, Doc explained why he wouldn't be streaming Apex any more. "The problem with YouTube is that they have no streaming community", said Disrespect. He said that if he doesn't stream the "top three or top four" most popular titles, his content and viewership will suffer. Further twisting the knife, he added, "If I just casually move over to Apex, a game that’s old. It’s been out for a year or two. I mean, sh*t". Despite that, he still said it was a "good game".
We don't know what's changed since, but we're guessing the idea of Dr Disrespect returning to Apex for the first time in months is enough to promise a healthy number of views. Whether on not you believe Dr Disrespect genuinely hates Apex or not, it's a clever way of pointing out potential flaws and criticisms that others might have with the title. We look forward to the next time he inevitably jumps off the dropship.
