PlayStation owners should be over the moon that they can blast alien scum to smithereens with a next-gen DOOM Eternal, but instead, they've left raging behind their visors. Although fans knew a next-gen revamp of DOOM Eternal was on the way to usher in the next generation, the PlayStation 5 version has left some gamers marooned on Mars.

Released in 2018, DOOM Eternal is the brutal follow-up to id Software's franchise reboot in 2016. Taking the action to a Hell-ravaged Earth, it was up to Doomguy to once again try and save what's left of the human race. As well as the multiplayer Battlemode, DOOM Eternal was praised for the two-part Ancient Gods DLC that continued the campaign.

Who wouldn't want a next-gen upgrade?

Why are PlayStation fans annoyed at the next-gen DOOM Eternal?

After Microsoft's all-star E3 showcase, the official DOOM account shared the news that the next-gen Eternal port will release on June 29. Hyping up ray tracing capabilities, 60fps, and a 4K experience, the news went down a storm. Even though it sounds amazing that the upgrade is free if you already own DOOM Eternal on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, it's not that simple.

Buried in a separate announcement that DOOM Eternal is also coming to PS5, console owners were p*ssed to learn their saves won't be transferred. Basically, you'll have to start the whole campaign of carnage all over again.

One disgruntled Doomslayer wrote, "Really hope @idSoftware can figure out syncing the save data in DOOM Eternal between PS4 and PS5 before launch because having to redo all the sh*t I already did over the last entire year is pretty bullsh*t ngl. other devs have figured out the same thing so theres really no excuse". Another simply asked, "What's the reason behind not being to use a PS4 save on PS5?"

Will Bethesda fix the next-gen DOOM Eternal

Xbox owners should be able to seamlessly transfer their DOOM Eternal save data, as long as they sign in with their Xbox Live account. When it comes to PlayStation, online progression will carry over if you've linked your Bethesda.net account, but the FAQ explained campaign data won't transfer from PS4 to PS5.

At least Xbox Series X/S owners will be able to pick up where they left off and enjoy the campaign in Performance Mode, Balanced Mode, or the souped-up Ray Tracing mode. Elsewhere, the PS5 Performance mode will have a 1584p resolution compared to the Xbox Series X's 1800p. Still, it will run at a nippy 120 FPS.

If players make enough noise, there's a chance developers will release a workaround, so you can boot up your PS4 save on the PS5, but then again, remember that Bethesda and id Software now falls under the Microsoft umbrella. Putting it simply, would you put time and effort into helping your biggest rival for a relatively minor title?
