This is the way. After months of rumours, speculation, and 'leaked footage', Disney is finally teasing the announcement of a AAA Mandalorian game. The Star Wars franchise continues to expand at an exponential rate, and considering we've come a long way from Masters of Teras Kasi, the games are also going great guns - sorry, lightsabers.

We're not sure how it happened, but over the years, the stoic bounty hunter known as Boba Fett has become one of the galaxy far, far away's best-loved characters. Baffling when you consider he had just four lines in George Lucas' original trilogy. The success of Boba Fett has continued to bleed into popular culture, with Disney's The Mandalorian series even bringing him back from the dead for Season 2.

What is the Mandalorian game?

On October 13, Disney and Lucasfilm joined forces for the "Bring Home the Bounty" campaign. It's described as a "global consumer products, games, and publishing campaign that will debut new Star Wars toys, collectibles, books, apparel, and more each week through the end of the year." Interest was piqued by a mysterious game announcement that's coming during Week 10 -at some point between December 14 and December 21.

Hoping to redeem the Star Wars Holiday Special, the announcement of a new game will bring in the festive season in style. It's a stretch, but the comment's section exploded with wild theories that the fact this is part of the "Bring Home the Bounty" campaign is enough to start flying the banners of Mandalore.

Has there been a Mandalorian game before?

There's a whole Kessel Run of Star Wars games on the way. As well as Ubisoft's open-world entry that will follow Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Respawn is working on a Fallen Order sequel. It was only a matter of time before someone turned Din Djarin's adventures into a AAA game. Added to this, 2021 is the first year we don't have a season of The Mandalorian since its debut. Finally, the announcement of a Mando game would be well-timed for The Book of Boba Fett's release on December 29.

Of course, those of you who know your Boba from your Jango will remember we nearly had a bounty hunter game many moons ago. The legendary Star Wars 1313 was going to take Boba to the seedy criminal underworld of Coruscant. 1313 was left as a smouldering heap on Mustafar when LucasArts shuttered its development doors back in 2013.

Star Wars overlord Kathleen Kennedy has repeatedly teased that these ideas could find a new lease of life, and while we doubt a full-blown Star Wars 1313 revival is on the cards (we wish), a Mandalorian game makes the most sense right now. Whether the game will retell the stories of the hit series, serve as a prequel, or fill in some of the gaps between seasons, we're already polishing our beskar in anticipation.
