Discord Has Changed Its Notification Sounds And People Hate It
Discord has recently changed its notification sounds, and users of the platform aren't exactly thrilled about it. The 'Snowsgiving Seasonal Event' has made the sounds 'festive', although you'd be forgiven for thinking they were trying to punish us for something.
What Are Discord Users Saying About The New Notification Sounds?
Discord describes the event as: "Once a year, the Discord community comes together to celebrate Snowsgiving. Collect daily Snowy Surprises, make new friends, enter contests and giveaways, and more. As always, we'll be giving back to the world by supporting charitable organizations to make the world a better place. Everyone is invited to celebrate with us."
However, users of the platform are being incredibly vocal on their feelings towards it - and they're not good. To be honest, I can't say I particularly enjoy them either. They're jarring, and quite unpleasant. However, it seems only fair to give Discord the credit they deserve for trying to bring some festive cheer to all of us.
Next time, it's probably worth just skipping it altogether, though. We know what we like, and it's the normal Discord sounds. Or just muting it completely, as is preferred by most.
Anyway, Discord users took to Twitter in their droves to complain about the new sounds. One user wrote: "discord who said you could change my sounds. THE LITTLE DISCORD ICON BEING SNOWY IS CUTE BUT THE SOUNDS ARE REALLY JARRING I HATE THIS".
Another added: "I DONT LIKE THE NEW DISCORD SOUNDS. DISCORD, IF THIS IS YOUR WAY OF SAYING heyyyyyyyy look at us doing cool things and not thinking about doing NFTs YOURE DOING A BAD JOB AT IT".
Discord has also added some other new features, they said: "Scheduled events are now here for you later. Let people know ahead of time about raid night, study group, and that holiday party. Because they have no reason to not show up if you gave them two weeks' notice, it’s displayed directly in your server, and they said they’d totally be there...right?
"Server Discovery is looking out for the little guy. We’ve lowered the minimum to join Server Discovery down to 1,000 members. Only 999 people away from making it."
So it's not all bad!
How Can We Turn Off The Discord Christmas Notification Sounds?
Luckily, Discord is very aware of how little some of its users think of the new sounds, and has been replying to Tweets with a workaround to get rid of them.
To disable the sounds:
- Go to 'User Settings'
- Then click 'Appearance'
- Disable 'Decorates the app for a special occasion'
This will mean you're no longer subjected to these particular sounds, as well as anything else Discord cooks up in the future. I really dread to think what they're thinking of putting in place for Valentine's Day.
