Seven days... seven days. Well, you've actually got a little longer. While 2021 has been a massive year for Behaviour Interactive's Dead by Daylight, it sounds like 2022 will be even scarier thanks to its next big crossover.

With a terrifying mix of IP crossovers and unique creations, Dead by Daylight has helped boost the popularity of the asymmetrical horror genre. This year saw us welcome the likes of Resident Evil's Tyrant and Hellraiser's Pinhead, but now, we're heading down the well with Ringu - no, not a horror-themed penguin.

What Is Dead By Daylight's Crossover With The Ring?

Behaviour Interactive had announced Chapter 23 will be called Ringu. The next big update will include content based on Koji Suzuki’s novel and the Japanese Ringu franchise. Over here, the story is best-known for Hollywood's three Ring movies that started in 2002 and was last seen with 2017's Rings.

We need to clarify, it looks like Dead by Daylight is adapting the original source material rather than the westernised version of the story. It seems that the next killer will be pulled from Suzuki’s original book and Hideo Nakata’s film adaptation from 1998. If this is the case, expect to see Sadako Yamamura and her bedraggled hair.

Discussing what's on the way from Chapter 23, Game Director Mathieu Côté said, "This new Chapter will give our players something intensely dark and troubling, a real heart-pounding experience that adds to the already high intensity of our game."

Speaking to Polygon, producer Reiko Imayasu said, "It’s been 30 years since the first publication of the novel Ringu and 22 years since the film Ringu. Collaboration with Dead by Daylight is without doubt a new challenge for the Ringu franchise. As an IP from Japan, we are entering the Fog for the first time … tremble with fear whilst you wait!"

Are More Crossovers Coming To Dead By Daylight?

Of course, a Ringu collaboration is only the start of what we assume is a jam-packed DbD roadmap in 2022. Remember, it wasn't long ago we heard about a potential Annabelle crossover

Elsewhere, there are continued calls for the likes of Child's Play's Chucky and Candyman's titular killer to be added to the game. These IPs cost a pretty penny - as we saw with Stranger Things leaving the game - but are well worth it in the long run.

We're sure that more horror legends are ready to join Freddy, Jason, Michael, and the rest, but while we draw up our own 2022 wishlist, at least we know there's a Ringu crossover ready to claw its way into our lives. Remember, don't watch any strange VHS tapes that turn up at your house!
