Oh come on CD Projekt Red, you can't have the best of both worlds. Just days after the developer opened the doors to officially support modding in Cyberpunk 2077, an X-rated Keanu Reeves mod has been pulled from the open world sci-fi shooter. Cyberpunk 2077 isn't exactly shy when it comes to explaining the birds and the bees, with some of the game's more adult themes allowing you to head out into Night City to have your wicked way with (almost) anyone.

While there's already been controversy surrounding a mod that let Male V fully romance Judy, that's nothing compared to the latest addition that turned The Matrix actor into a walking sex doll. Cyberpunk 2077 was never aimed at kids, but it turns out that in this world where anything supposedly goes, putting a Hollywood megastar in his own porno is a step too far as a lawsuit waiting to happen. It sounds like some players need to go for a cold shower.

What was the Cyberpunk 2077 X-Rated Keanu Reeves Mod?

Similar to Death Stranding having an all-star cast that included Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, and Mads Mikkelsen, adding Keanu Reeves to Cyberpunk 2077 was huge news. As arguably one of the biggest stars to ever grace the world of video games, he's right up there with Samuel L. Jackson lending his vocals to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. However, as the video game industry has come on such a long way since back in the day, it now means modern games can really capture the likeness of an actor. You might be forgiven for thinking Reeves' portrayal of Johnny Silverhand is actually the man himself, which has led to the latest drama.

The mantra here seems to be: "Have sex as Keanu Reeves, not with Keanu reeves". The now-axed mod from Camino appeared on Nexus Mods and swapped skin textures between Reeves' Silverhand and the sexbots known as Joytoys. It's a pretty crude interpretation of what it would be like to have sex with Reeves (we're guessing). The character remains dressed and kept the Joytoy lines, however, it was enough to catch the attention of developers.

Explaining why the mod has been pulled, CD Projekt Red told PC Gamer, "Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it can’t be harmful towards others. In the case of model swaps, especially those that involve explicit situations, it can be perceived as such by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077". While modding seems great on the surface, there's a dark underbelly where some will create content that isn't suitable for a game. At least CD Projekt Red seems on it in terms of what is and isn't appropriate.

Is this the end of the Cyberpunk 2077 X-Rated Keanu Reeves Mod?

Interestingly, Silverhand does have a sex scene within the game's main campaign -  it plays out in the usual first-person perspective that most of the title runs in. There was once talk about Cyberpunk 2077 following in the footsteps of the developer's Witcher series and being totally third-person, meaning we could've seen a very different view of Johnny's sex scene if things had gone as planned. At the time of writing, the mod has been hidden on Nexus Mods and Keanu has got his dignity back.

The problem is, now that people know about a Cyberpunk 2077 X-rated Keanu Reeves mod, how much longer until someone else creates another? Considering CD Projekt Red has officially opened the floodgates to modding, there's sure to be a surge in mods that strip Reeves down to his birthday suit and see him engage in all kinds of lewd acts. We're guessing this kind of content would be a hit on a certain type of website you definitely shouldn't go looking for. Whether the devs have managed to nip this one in the bud or not remains to be seen, but either way, we've seen Mr Reeves in a whole new light.
