The wait is finally over as Cyberpunk 2077 is preparing to blast its way into our lives as not only one of the biggest games of 2020, but in living memory. Coming from the acclaimed studio behind The Witcher series, CD Projekt Red has ploughed years of work into creating this sprawling dystopia set in a tech-ravaged future.

It's hard to believe it's been eight years since Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced, meaning it's been a labour of love for developers and fans alike. Still, with so much time to create the ambitious backdrop of Night City, it's no surprise CD Projekt Red has littered it with a tonne of Easter eggs. While hunting for nods to other games has become a staple of modern titles, CD Projekt Red has taken it one step further with a cleverly hidden Cyberpunk 2077 Kojima Easter egg.

For those who don't know their Solid Snake from their standard garden snake, Kojima is the man behind the Metal Gear franchise, worked on the canned Silent Hills, and recently crafted Death Stranding. The Metal Gear stealth series is an icon in its own right, and with this in mind, it's no surprise Cyberpunk 2077 is honouring Kojima's legacy.

Cyberpunk 2077 Kojima Easter egg: Where is it?

One of Cyberpunk 2077's big pulls has been the involvement of Keanu Reeves, who appears (in likeness) as the smooth-talking Johnny Silverhand. With graphics having come on so much in recent years, Reeves' portrayal in-game is a dead ringer for the man himself. However, it turns out Reeves isn't the only one who snuck a cameo into the story.

Heading to one of Cyberpunk 2077's many missions, you'll be sent to a Night City corpo bar during "The Heist". It's relatively early on in the game when you first visit Konpeki Plaza. Among the well-dressed and upper-class clientele, you might be able to find a Japanese man sitting in a plush booth and chatting about his life. His name is Oshima, which is a clever take on Kojima's name. In Japanese, Kojima means "small island", while Oshima means "big island". In this world, Oshima is a bit of a loudmouth know-it-all who brags about his research team in Tokyo wanting to capture real human emotions.

If you hang around and continue to bother Oshima, he'll ask players, "Do you know my work?” and “Did you bring a pitch for me?”. It's a clever take on the video game developer and captures Kojima's unique style of dress.

Cyberpunk 2077 Kojima Easter egg: Is it really a secret?

Those who've been keeping close to Cyberpunk 2077's development should've expected Kojima to pop by somewhere. Earlier this year, CD Projekt Red showed off what Kojima "could" look like with a rendering of him. Featuring Kojima on a motorcycle, it was based off his outfit when he got an early look at Cyberpunk 2077 way back in 2018.

It will be interesting to know whether Kojima had a hand in creating his Cyberpunk character. The man is also known for his work of the artistically brilliant Death Stranding, which was praised for its lifelike creations of huge stars including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Mads Mikkelsen. As Cyberpunk 2077 continues to grow and we only just scratch the surface of Night City, we're wondering whether Oshima is out there somewhere on his motorcycle. While we carry on hunting for more cameos, see if you can find Kojima for yourselves!
