Cyberpunk 2077 Is Returning To PSN - But Sony Has Issued A Warning
It’s been a long road for Cyberpunk 2077. The game began as one of 2020’s most anticipated gaming releases, and became a disgraced title by its release due to the immense issues that the game ran into with bugs and glitches.
Developers CD Projekt Red was lambasted for their promotion of crunch culture with their staff and still turning out an unfinished game - and the gaming industry’s rejection of the game was no better exemplified by the unprecedented removal of the game from the PSN store. PlayStation took matters into their own hands, and stopped allowing players to be misled by the developers that they were buying a full-price game that completely worked. Now, the action is being reversed - but not without warning from Sony themselves.
Sony’s Warning To Cyberpunk Fans
The first word of Cyberpunk’s return to PlayStation came from former Kotaku editor Stephen Totilo, who tweeted a confirmation of the news. He revealed that the game will be coming back to the PSN store on June 21, according to CD Projekt Red.
Speaking with IGN, a spokesperson for Sony has made their suggestions to fans looking to pick up Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation consoles - and has recommended they don’t try it out on the mainline PS4. “SIE can confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will be re-listed on PlayStation Store starting June 21, 2021”, they begin. “Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition, while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms. SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience.”
The announcement that the game isn’t yet running properly on PS4 isn’t a shock to many, and some Twitter users are making gags at the game’s expense:
The game’s return to the PSN store is a controversial one, and will allow players who missed it the first time around to finally give it a go - but heed PlayStation’s warning. If you’re still making the most of your launch PS4, it might be worth waiting to upgrade before nestling into Cyberpunk 2077.
