CS:GO Pro Oversleeps For Huge IEM Fall Fixture Leaving Team To Forfeit
Just as the biggest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) event of the calendar year beckons, one team are now set to miss out on qualification after forfeiting a tie due to a team member oversleeping.
Jack "xCeeD" Holiman overslept for one of the biggest matches of his career to date, meaning Triumph had to forfeit their game against Evil Geniuses, who move up to second in the IEM Fall standings.
Having both gone into the fixture on a 1-1 record, a win for Triumph would have seen them join FURIA in the top-two, and be a shoo-in for a place at the PGL Major: Stockholm later this month. The top-two from their group will be awarded enough yearly ranking points to automatically qualify for Stockholm, which now looks to be in the hands of FURIA and either Evil Geniuses or GODSENT.
xCeeD's extra nightcap saw Triumph's best shot at a Major in over a year, especially as their map veto against EG was more than favourable. Should the 21-year-old have woken up in time, Triumph would have faced EG on Nuke, a map which is Triumph's strongest whilst EG has never won a competitive fixture on it in six months.
To rub salt in the wounds of Triumph's Danny "cxzi" Strzelczyk, the young American admitted that he "ran close to a mile to make it on time" because of a mid-term that clashed with the game's kick-off time. The time of the match was 5:45pm local time, making the situation even more confusing.
Usually, a team would enlist the help of their named substitute, however, Triumph was already using the help of their sixth man, Wesley "viz" Harris due to usual starter Brendan "Bwills" Williams moving.
There remains a slither of hope for Triumph if they beat GODSENT by a huge margin, and FURIA also beat Evil Geniuses, although an 18 point map difference deficit would mean nothing more than a 16-6 win is needed if the earlier fixture swings in their favour.
However, it looks bleak for the American side, who will be making sure an alarm clock is pinging for their remaining fixture.
