Fortnite Is Finally About To Destroy Coral Castle
It's the end of days in Fortnite - well at least for one longstanding POI. As the alien-themed Chapter 2 Season 7 heads toward its own sci-fi endgame, the latest map update has overhauled our favourite locales (again), and this time, it looks like we're about to say goodbye to Coral Castle.
If you fancy catching some rays and sunning yourself at the nautical paradise, indulging in a spot of surfing, or hunting sharks like you're in a Jaws movie, you'd better be quick thanks to the 17.20 update. While we're still well over a month away from Chapter 2 Season 8, Epic Games isn't slowing down with its alien invasion.
Will Fortnite destroy Coral Castle?
Rumours of Coral Castle's destruction are nothing new, with players leading a fan campaign to save the famous POI. Unfortunately, it's fallen on deaf ears as the alien mothership is poised to blast it from the ground. Safe to say, the internet isn't ready to say goodbye to Coral Castle as the countdown begins.
Although some were disappointed the latest update hasn't obliterated Coral Castle, it's not over yet. Noted leaker Fort Tory has shared some interesting assets for an in-game countdown clock. It's far too early for the presumed end of season live event - suggesting we're about to get one related to Coral Castle. Added to this, the Kymera have started spawning at Coral Castle.
If all of the above wasn't enough, there are persistent rumours of an underground POI. When touring the IO facility at Corny Complex isn't enough, imagine going beneath Coral Castle and exploring some alien ruins. Whether the mothership abducts Coral Castle as it did with the Spire, or whether it blasts it into a smouldering crater, it's been a good run.
Will Coral Castle return to Fortnite?
Introduced in Chapter 2 Season 3, Coral Castle was part of the Aquaman-themed season. A lot has changed since then, and although DC favourite Superman is coming to Fortnite, we've long moved past the King of the Seven Seas. Given that Coral Castle is one of those rarely visited POIs unless you're sent there for a specific challenge, it makes sense that this landing spot was top of the list for the chop.
If Coral Castle is destined for the dump, it's unlikely it will return. Just like Colossal Coliseum, The Rig, and even The Spire have waved goodbye in Chapter 2, this really could be the end for Coral Castle. Some have claimed the POI will be renamed as Coral Cove, but remember, that's already the name of a landmark near Coral Cove.
We'll have to wait and see what the future holds for Coral Castle, but with its placement so close to the alien-packed believer beach, new Kymera spawns, and the once regal location being littered with alien tech, Scuba Jonesy had better watch his back.
