According to reports coming out of Brazil, FaZe Clan are reportedly benching two-time Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) player of the year: Marcelo "coldzera" David.

The Brazilian native is set to miss out on the BLAST Premier: Spring Finals, with long-standing CS:GO heavyweight Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer Gustafsson stepping back into the first team.

As reported by media outlet globo esports, coldzera is to be benched by FaZe, although the colossal organisation has yet to make any formal announcements.

Coldzera Benched Following Poor FaZe rresults

The decision comes in following FaZe clan's poor form in recent weeks, highlighted by their flop in Flashpoint Season 3. The incredibly high standards of FaZe were slashed as the side dropped back-to-back losses in the opening fixtures against G2 Esports and Sprout respectively, bombing out of the event in last place.

Their woes in Flashpoint Season 3 only emulated those in their previous event - Dreamhack Masters Spring. FaZe also failed to notch up a single win there, having been bettered by Virtus.pro and mousesports in straight games.

FaZe Clan has yet to reach any of their usual heights in 2021, with just a second-placed seed in the group stages of BLAST Premier Spring being their only semi-successful venture. The side with over $3million in prize money over their illustrious CS:GO venture have now failed to reach the semi-final stage on 12 consecutive occasions, dating back to November 2020.

Benching Coldzera: Have FaZe made the right decision?

Coldzera's benching may come as a surprise to FaZe faithful's with the recent acquisitions of Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken and Finn "karrigan" Andersen being the scapegoats of much of their criticism.

Their 25th-placed HLTV ranking is now their lowest status since 2016, highlighting that change was rather necessary for the side. However, having been a staple of Faze's roster since arriving from MIBR in 2019, coldzera's benching will likely be one that will raise many eyebrows.

However, the addition of a well-rested olofmeister may be a stroke of genius by FaZe, with his leadership and knowledge surely set to help settle the two newest recruits and churn some results out.

FaZe's venture at the BLAST Premier: Spring Finals starts with a tough fixture versus Natus Vincere on June 16.
