Even as the long-shooting Call of Duty franchise heads toward Call of Duty: Vanguard's upcoming release, there are promises that 2020's Black Ops Cold War will be the most supported franchise entry ever. With this in mind, players have asked for a quality of life improvement and return of a classic Black Ops feature.

While beloved multiplayer maps like Raid, Moscow, and Nuketown '84 have already become classic CoD additions, there's no escaping lesser locales including Satellite, Miami, and Cartel. When any of these come up in rotation, it's a cruel twist of fate to pick the lesser of two evils, but what if all that were to change?

What classic Black Ops feature do fans want back?

The laborious task of picking between Satellite and Miami has prompted a fan request on Reddit, with u/Mathiasxd148- suggesting the return of "classified" map voting. As of the Season 4 Reloaded refresh, we now have a whopping 19 6v6 maps, seven Gunfight maps, and five Fireteam maps. With this in mind, the OP suggested now is the time to bring back a randomised "classified" feature of map selection.

Musing why we're limited to just two map options with each match, u/Mathiasxd148- wrote, "I’ve always wondered why they didn’t or rather still don’t do it because in all Black Ops that third option of random or classified is present". It's something we've often wondered about, and an issue that's clearly bugged other players too.

Championing the idea of a randomised map selection feature, one redditor wrote, "Why didn’t they add this in the first place? Do they hate us that much?" Another added, "There's 8 modes 4 modes for each map and all they give us is 2 options. 2 ain't enough give us a random option", while a third grumbled, "Nobody wants a random. They definitely have stats on what gets used. I imagine it's a waste. Just be happy we even get a vote unlike last year on MW. That's hot garbage".

Could we see the classified Black Ops feature return?

When Black Ops Cold War launched last November, there were a measly eight 6v6 maps and no Gunfight, meaning the classified feature wouldn't have made much sense. However, just like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate offers a randomised option to cycle through the plethora of different landscapes, it makes sense with this much beefier Cold War.

Returning to those promises that Cold War will continue to be propped up by Treyarch long after Vanguard rolls its WWII tanks into action, you can also bet there are a tonne more maps on the way. Looking at Year Two, there's also supposed to be an improved focus on Zombies content, meaning classified would be a welcome addition to the first-person shooter.

The classified feature might be a staple of Black Ops titles, however, we don't know why Treyarch skipped it for Cold War. With so many maps knocking around, it's definitely possible the feature could be added back in. Then again, is such a minor complaint really worth the time of devs when they're busy trying to fix hacks and glitches?
